A Step Ahead Center is looking for a part time employee to start in the middle of July. Hours to begin with will be 2:30 to 6:30. Hours will probably increase to about 7.5 hours per day with a 1/2 unpaid lunch around September 1. Pay starts at $7.25 per hour. Contact Dan at 253-3083.
 Springfield First United Methodist Church invites all children to go to the edge this summer for Vacation Bible School! Camp E.D.G.E.: Experience + Discover God Everywhere is an extreme adventure camp taking kids on exciting bible treks to experience and discover God everywhere, every day!

Springfield Memorial Library will host its Summer Reading Party on July 20th at 1:00pm. Magician, Peter the Great will perform for Summer Reading Program participants, family and friends. Stop by for fun, prizes and refreshments while helping the library celebrate the ending of the Summer Reading Program season.

Spectacular Fireworks in Springfield
 The weather was certainly chilly and damp on July 4th this year, but plenty of Springfield folks celebrated Independence Day with get-togethers and fireworks. It was reported that this year was the second coldest July 4th recorded in our area. It was a good evening for hot cocoa!

July 13- Summer Reading Programs at Springfield Memorial Library – Preschool Story Time, 9:30 – 10:15am. Elementary age program. 1:00pm: Picturing America art program with Nancy Davis.  
July 14, 12pm – Senior Brown Bag Lunch at Springfield Memorial Library

First Annual Veterans Memorial Golf Tournament

The first annual Veterans Memorial Golf Tournament will take place July 24th and you are invited!
Bring your own foursome, or partner up with fellow golfers at the course. Either way you are sure to have a great afternoon while you raise money for the Veterans Memorial planned for the campus of the Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home in Bellevue.
The Veterans Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at Willow Lakes Golf Course, 12301 S 25th St., about a mile south of Highway 370 in Bellevue. Check-in begins at 11:30 am with a shot gun start at 1 pm. An Awards Dinner will follow at 6:30 pm at the American Legion Post 331, 4830 S 21st Street, in South Omaha.
Registration is $75 per golfer or $300 for a foursome. Registration includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, the chance to win great prizes and an invitation to the Awards Dinner.
Holes can be sponsored for $50 each. Sponsors are also invited to donate merchandise as flag prizes.

Manley, NE –Lofte  Community Theatre
The Lofte Community Theatre near Manley will be holding auditions for its production of, "Over the River and Through the Woods,"  on Monday, July 20th and Tuesday, July 21st at 7:00PM.  The production will run weekends between August 28 and September 13.  
The play is set in New Jersey and revolves around the young and single "Nick" who has Sunday dinner with both sets of grandparents every week.  When Nick receives an offer for his dream job that would move him away from his family, his grandparents embark upon a series of schemes to keep him around!  Parts for 3 men and 3 women.

The Old Avoca (Nebraska) Schoolhouse will be hosting a Twin Fiddling Workshop on Saturday, August 1, for fiddlers (or violinists or violists) who want to learn to play nicely together with their fellow-fiddlers (or violinists or violists).  Fiddlers (or violinists or violists) of any age and experience level are encouraged to enroll.  Championship fiddler and fiddle book author, Deborah Greenblatt will share some tunes, hints about arranging for two fiddles, playing back-up, etc.  The Workshop takes place on Saturday, August 1, 1 PM - 3 PM, in the Old Avoca Schoolhouse, in Avoca, Nebraska.  Pre-registration is required, and enrollment is limited.  The fee is $20.00 per fiddler.  For more information, call 402-275-3221, or send an e-mail to This email address is being protected from spambots.
