Students in the Poetry and Prints Art workshop proudly demonstrated their work at an "Art Show and Reception" for family and friends at Springfield Memorial Library Thursday evening on October 15.

SUBSTANCE ABUSE POSTER CONTEST
The Springfield St Joseph’s Catholic Church Knights of Columbus are sponsoring a Substance Abuse Awareness Art Contest. Every entry qualifies for a chance to win a Tom Osborne autographed football or a John Cook autographed volleyball! All students in grades 3 – 6 who live in the South Sarpy District #46 or who attend St. Joseph’s Church may enter the contest. Enter by November 19 for a chance to win the football or volleyball. The drawing will be held at the Springfield Elementary gym between 6:45 and 7:30pm. Entry forms and 11x17paper may be picked up at Springfield Elementary, Westmont Elementary, and St. Joseph’s Church (on the back table).
FAMILY PUMPKIN DECORATING NIGHT
THE FLU SHOT CLINIC IS POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
VNA Flu Clinic is scheduled for Thursday, October 22 from 4-6pm in the Library’s meeting room. The VNA will provide flu shots for person 13 years of age and older. Anyone under the age of 19 must have a parent or guardian present to sign the consent form. Cost of the flu shot is $25 or free with a Medicare Part B card or Railroad Medicare. Flu mist will be available for ages 2-49 years for $30 each.
The Library’s Annual Used Book Sale is scheduled for November 14 from 9a.m. – 1p.m. Stop by to shop for gently used books at reasonable prices.
HALLOWEEN CRAFTS @THE LIBRARY
Tuesday October 27, 3:30 -5:00p.m.
All ages are invited to make spooky crafts after school.
Platteview High School Invites the community for a special Veteran’s Day program on Wednesday, November 11 at 10:00a.m. WOWT anchor, John Knicely, will be the special guest speaker.
Springfield VFW Post 9558 will host breakfast, Sunday 25 October 2009, 8:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Springfield Legion Hall. All you care to eat! Pancakes French toast, eggs, hash browns, ham and sausage. Milk, orange juice and coffee included. $6.50 for adults and $3.00 for children. Come in and enjoy!

David Seay, Master Artist with the Nebraska Arts Council, will be presenting a Harmonica Workshop/Concert on Sunday, November 8, at 2:30 PM in the Old Avoca, Nebraska Schoolhouse.
The workshop/concert will be followed by light refreshments, and a chance to chat and jam with the performers. Admission is $5.00 for adults, and $1.00 for children and students. Decent 10 hole diatonic harmonicas in the key of C will be available for purchase for $3.00 each so everyone can join in the fun.
