CONGRATULATIONS, JT OLTMAN
2013 DOUGLAS/SARPY 4-H VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR AWARD
This year’s recipient of the 4-H Volunteer of the Year Award is someone who was hooked on 4-H long before he was 8 years old as he helped his sisters with their 4-H projects. And now, 23 years later he hasn’t gotten away from 4-H yet! When JT Oltman was no longer able to exhibit he knew this wasn’t the end of his 4-H experience. He continued his work as co-superintendent of Swine, and is always eager to share his swine knowledge with any showman he meets. He loves working with 4-H youth and volunteers at many events of The True Buddy Therapeutic Sheep Club and the Country Bumpkins 4-H Club. He loves working one on one with 4-Hers assisting with showmanship practices, sharing informational books and creating flyers with pointers for the showmen. He also spends time preparing for the 4-H Royalty Coronation. And he can be seen at Fair Clean Ups before and after the fair. In addition to his formal volunteer responsibilities JT just always happens to be around when work needs done and he jumps at the chance to do it! Tracey Jones said, “JT is always respectful and easy to approach for both adult 4-H volunteers, 4-H staff and of course the youth.” This approachability in addition to his contagious energy keeps him busy with all kinds of projects during the fair and throughout the rest of the year.

'Nunset Boulevard'
Opens at
Lofte CommunityTheatre
The Lofte Community Theatre in Manley opens the wacky musical-comedy 'Nunset Boulevard' on Saturday, October 12. 'Nunset' is the sixth installment of the popular series chronicling the antics little sisters of Hoboken. This time they have been invited to perform at the Hollywood Bowl. However, upon their arrival, they discover that it's actually the Hollywood Bowl-A-Rama and Cabaret Lounge. When they find there is a screen test going on across the street, they think stardom is just a few steps away! This is a fun family-friendly evening filled with lighthearted comedy and fantastic vocals.
Directed by Kevin Colbert, the play stars the operatically trained Janet Sorensen of Elmwood as Reverend Mother. Her second in command, Sister Mary Hubert is played by Betty Colbert. Anna Stroebel of Papillion, Charity Baker of Elmwood and Samantha colbert and Alyssa DiPaolo both of Lincoln fill out the ranks.
The production opens October 12 and runs October 13, 18-20 and 24-27. Tickets are $17. Reservations can be made by calling the Lofte box office at 402.234.2553 or visiting the Lofte website at Lofte.com.

CASS COUNTY MUSEUM
In conjunction with the Plattsmouth Harvest Festival, Cass County Historical Society has opened a new exhibit “Harvest Memories: Farm Life and Fall Festivals”. The exhibit recalls the 1916 Fall Festival and Kass Kounty King Korn Karnivals from the 1930s to the 1960s. Included are photographs and memorabilia such as ties and souvenir pins. The exhibit will continue through October 27.
Also on view through October 27 is the exhibit “Remembering Beautiful Merritt Beach”. Included are photographs about the recreation area that was located just south of the Platte River on the east side of Highway 75. Merritt Beach was in operation from the 1930s through 1989.
Cass County Museum's regular summer hours are Tuesday through Sunday from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. For additional information about the exhibits or special festival events, contact the museum, 402-296-4770.
