INTERIOR DESIGN STUDENTS GET THRIFTY FOR A CAUSE DURING HABITAT FOR HUMANITY RESTORE DESIGNER CHALLENGE
Seventeen students from Metropolitan Community College’s Interior Design program, including Springfield resident Amanda Scholting, and five local design firms joined forces to create clever, imaginative room vignettes using items from Habitat ReStore and the Salvation Army. The rooms are on display June 24-July 21 in Von Maur Court at Westroads Mall, 10000 California St.
This mini-internship challenged students to apply class concepts and, alongside professional designers, conceptualize ways to transform obvious objects into high-end furnishings.
Mall patrons are invited to view the display for inspiration and vote for their favorite rooms via text message. For every vote received through July 14, Westroads Mall will donate $1 to Habitat for Humanity of Omaha (up to $1,000).
An exclusive unveiling event, sponsored by MCC, was held Sunday, June 23. The reception allowed the teams to celebrate their work, give tours and provide insight into the design process. Design firm partners include D3interiors, Designer’s Touch, Interior Transformations, Tangerine Designs and The Interior Design Firm.

AUDITIONS FOR
'The Boys Next Door' at Lofte Community Theatre
The Lofte Community Theatre in Manley announces that it will be holding open auditions for 'The Boys Next Door' at 7pm on Monday, July 22 and Tuesday, July 23. 'Boys,' is a very funny yet very touching play that focuses on the lives of four special needs men who live in a communal residence under the watchful eye of their social worker.
Artistic Director Kevin Colbert notes that the script is designed so that 6 of the supporting roles may be played by one actress and one actor. However, if we have enough auditionees, the cast may be doubled. Also the script suggests that the role of Lucian be an African American.
Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Rehearsals will begin in late July. Performances will run weekends August 31-September 15. Those auditioning should bring a list of possible schedule conflicts. Questions about auditions or the production itself may be directed to Kevin Colbert at 402-234-2553.
