SPRINGFIELD HISTORICAL TIDBIT
Louis A. Bates kept a “Bell” telephone for years in his store. [He] kept gave quick and perfect attention to all long distance calls, and when the baseball boys and their boosters wanted to get a “message” through without pay, he was able to get them the desired information without cost to them. He also kept a record of the weather and rain and snowfall which was most valuable and much appreciated.
