What’s New in Springfield, NE

February 13, 2008

It’s Valentine’s Day tomorrow. Celebrate with your loved ones. Here are some fun, simple, and inexpensive ideas to observe this holiday:

  • Be creative! Write a personal note or poem saying something about why you love them.
  • Buy a small valentine and secretly place it under their pillow.
  • Make a special candlelight dinner (kids love this, too).
  • Get into the kitchen and make a Valentine recipe. Anything chocolate is good.
  • Give your sweeties an extra hug or kiss.

Springfield Days 2008 planning is already in the works. First off is the “Theme Contest”. We must have a catchy theme for this year’s event:

Springfield Days Theme Contest…submit your ideas fast! Winners will receive special recognition during the parade and Springfield Days Bucks to be used during the weekend festivities. Ideas can be submitted to ssimonsen@esu3.org or Connie at the Springfield Library. Deadline: Feb. 28th. Again mark your calendars for June 6 & 7 and don’t miss the fun this 2008. Next planning meeting is Thursday, Feb. 28th at 7:00 p.m. at the library.

Mom doesn’t have to cook this weekend! Friday night head over to St. Joseph’s Church for the Knights of Columbus Fish Fry and Saturday night is the Mission Soup Supper at the United Methodist Church. Support these two great causes. Dad and the kids are cooking on Sunday! Happy Valentines weekend, Mom!

Springfield Memorial Library held it’s first ever “Ooey, Gooey Science” workshop in January on Thursdays after school. Twelve students experimented with making flubber, conducted sink and float experiments, and made ice cream in a bag. The scientists observed and tested their recipes and projects, coming up with ideas on how and why things work.
