What’s New in Springfield, NE
February 27, 2008
Help! I work in a library filled with books. I imagine the authors sitting down most everyday to write these literary works. As I sit here, I can not think of one single thing to write about. What’s happening in Springfield? I should have gone to that music festival last Saturday, but we were helping friends with a project. I should have been more observant this week. I should have snapped those cute pictures! What’s going on out there? Check my email—nothing!! See my dilemma? So help me out folks and send in all your news and pictures. Click on that link down below. Just a little blurb and a picture or two would truly help out!
It’s a leap year! Do you have any big leap year plans for this coming Friday, February 29th? It’s an extra work day. It’s an extra school day! It’s someone’s actual birthday! Centuries ago, Leap Year was also known as Ladies Day, since this was the only day in which a lady was allowed to propose to a man. So make the most of an extra day in the year of 2008! And don’t forget that you can observe Leap Day in Springfield by heading out to St. Joseph’s Fish Fry for a scrumptious meal.
Just one more word about Robins…I saw two robins last Saturday right out back in the old Ash tree, flitting around and playing. Could it possibly mean what I think it means? The first sign of a Spring to come? I now realize they were just teasing when I saw that flock of robins in January. I’m keeping a watch out that it wasn’t just a passing fancy!

Area artists are invited to participate in Air Your Art in Louisville, a public banner art display event, sponsored by BUILD (Businesses United In Louisville's Development) and Louisville businesses.
Artists are being asked to design and paint streetlight pole banners, incorporating the theme, “150 Years and Still Making Tracks.” The painted banners will then be displayed on Main Street in Louisville, May 17th through September 8th.
Interested artists should submit an entry form and design sketch for approval by March 7, 2008. Artists will be notified of approval and banners will then be distributed for painting, with the banner completion deadline set for May 9, 2008. Only one entry per artist will be allowed, with only twenty-three total banners available for the display.
An auction is also being planned for the banners after the display ends, with BUILD sharing a portion of the proceeds with the artists. Details about the auction, including a date, will be made available at a later time.
