What’s New in Springfield, NE

Bugeater’s Flea Market takes place during Springfield Days on Friday, June 6, noon – 10pm and Saturday, June 7, 8am – 4pm. Organizer’s, Steve and Jill Snodgrass, are offering early registration to all Springfield vendors until March 15th. After that date, all vendor applications will be processed on a first come, first serve basis. If you or your Springfield area business would like to apply for a vendor spot during the flea market, click here download the application, or apply online at http://www.bugeaterfleamarket.com/

Attention: Retired people will receive the economic stimulus checks this summer only if they file a tax return. Anyone who has only social security and a small pension don’t normally have to file tax returns. BUT – if they do, enter their social security amount and any other income and just show $0.00 due, they will receive checks this summer. If you have access to www.IRS.gov you can print off 1040A forms – Social Security received goes on the left to line # 14A taxable portion on 14b should be $0.00. Thanks to Susan Peplow for this important information.

It’s” Preschool Registration” time! Sonshine Preschool at the United Methodist church in Springfield is now taking registrations for the next 2008 -09 school year. Preschool is held on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30 – 11:30am, September – April. Tuition is $110 per month. Registrations can be found at the church or the library.

Friends of the Springfield Memorial News - -The Friends are looking for volunteers to help with their fundraising events. During Springfield Days, the Friends of the Library are sponsoring this year’s Duck Drop event. They will need lots of help with this event. Anyone interested in assisting this organization can call the library for more information. You are also urged to attend the Annual Meeting on April 7th at 6:30.
Plus contribute to a great cause… The Friends are selling Summer Garden Flower Collections. Look for order forms at various businesses around town, at the library, or place your order with a Friend member. 50% of all profits will benefit the Friends of the Springfield Memorial Library.

Springfield United Methodist Church Game Feed & Game Night --Come early to get the best selection! This fundraiser will benefit the Youth Group, who are now in the process of raising funds for their mission trip this summer. There will also be a Silent Auction. We have word that a helmet signed by Bo Pelini will be auctioned! Plus lots of other great items, many donated by Shadow Lake Towne Center merchants. Bring your games from home and have a fun evening at this fun family event!

I have been remiss. I have not introduced you to our newest addition to our family, our very first grandchild …so I am proud to announce Annika Mia Manzer was born on November 19, 2007 to Rocky and Sarah in Greeley, Co. Isn’t she sweet?

March 14 – Fish Fry Night The St. Joseph Catholic Church Knights of Columbus are having those delicious Lenten Friday Night Fish Fries. Desserts provided by the Ladies Guild. Stop by from 5:00 – 7:30pm for a great meal. It’s your last chance to attend this year! Cheese pizza and Mac n Cheese, too!

March 15, 5-7pm – Springfield United Methodist Church Game Feed and Game Night.

March 15, 7pm- Meet Your Winemaker Dinner at Soaring Wings Vineyard. Paul Pleskach of “At Your Service Catering” will serve a five-course meal. He pairs each entree with our wines. $60 per person with reservations required.

March 18 & 19 – South Sarpy District #46 Schools, Parent/ Teacher conferences.

Events Happening Elsewhere

Louisville, NE :
Area artists are invited to participate in Air Your Art in Louisville, a public banner art display event, sponsored by BUILD (Businesses United In Louisville's Development) and Louisville businesses.
Artists are being asked to design and paint streetlight pole banners, incorporating the theme, “150 Years and Still Making Tracks.” The painted banners will then be displayed on Main Street in Louisville, May 17th through September 8th.
Interested artists should submit an entry form and design sketch for approval by March 7, 2008. Artists will be notified of approval and banners will then be distributed for painting, with the banner completion deadline set for May 9, 2008. Only one entry per artist will be allowed, with only twenty-three total banners available for the display.
An auction is also being planned for the banners after the display ends, with BUILD sharing a portion of the proceeds with the artists. Details about the auction, including a date, will be made available at a later time.
