What’s New in Springfield, NE
March 21, 2007
Happy, Happy Spring ! Today is the first full day of spring 2007, which began officially yesterday, March 20, at 7:07pm CDT. We anticipate warmer weather, quenching rains, and spring flowers. The forecast this week is calling for rain. After the past year’s drought, we should be thankful for any moisture mother nature gives us. Bring on the rain!
March is kite flying season. Kite flying is a great activity for the whole family.
There are many different types of kites to choose from. For medium winds,
a Delta,
Dragon or Diamond works best. Box and Parafoil kites fly better in
stronger winds.
Please remember these important safety tips while enjoying kite flying:
1. Fly your kite away from other people.
2. Don't fly close to roads, landing a kite in a road could cause an accident.
3. Stay away from overhead power lines.
4. Choose a park or open field to fly your kite.
5. Don't fly near airports.
6. Never fly in rain or lightening. Electricity in clouds is attracted to damp kite lines and kite fliers.
Fly safe and have fun!

SPRINGFIELD HISTORICAL TIDBIT
