What’s New in Springfield, NE

April 4, 2007

Suddenly, spring has erupted in Springfield. Trees and shrubs are budding, spring bulbs are flowering, and the grass is oh, so green. Sure, it’s a little cold this week, but warmer weather will return. Soon, we can start digging in the dirt!

Happy Easter, everyone! I hope the Easter Bunny is good to you. Remember when you were a kid and your mother dressed you in Easter finery; a frilly dress, hat, and gloves for the girls and a suit or dress pants, white shirts and ties for the boys. One year at my grandmother’s house a trench was being dug for a new sewer pipe and my little sister fell in, wearing her new Easter dress. Boy, was I ever glad that wasn’t me!

This week, April 2-6, is Severe Weather Awareness Week for the state of Nebraska. Preparation for severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, and floods is recommended for persons living in our area. An excellent source for more information on this topic is NOAA’s National Weather Service web page. Click on this link: http://www.crh.noaa.gov/oax/?n=safety

April is National Poetry Month. Celebrate by reading poetry, attending a poetry reading, or writing poetry.
