What’s New in Springfield, NE
May 9, 2007
What a lot a rain we’ve had lately! I hope everyone was able to stay safe and dry. I spent a good part of Sunday soaking up water in our finished basement. We think the problem is fixed now. I realize this was just an inconvenience compared to what some folks experienced this past weekend with the flooding and severe weather. Our thoughts and prayers are with the residents of Greensburg, Kansas, where 95% of the town was devastated by a tornado.
Flood Safety Tips:
If Indoors:
-Turn on battery-operated radio or television to get the latest emergency information.
-Get your preassembled emergency supplies.
-If told to leave, do so immediately.
If Outdoors:
-Climb to high ground and stay there.
-Avoid walking through any floodwaters. If it is moving swiftly, even water 6 inches deep can sweep you off your feet.
If In A Car:
-If you come to a flooded area, turn around and go another way.
-If your car stalls, abandon it immediately and climb to higher ground. Many deaths have resulted from attempts to move stalled vehicles.
Mother’s Day is celebrated this Sunday, May 13. Pamper Mom…give her the day off. Make Mom breakfast in bed or take her out for dinner at her favorite restaurant.
Some Typical Motherly Advice:
- Make sure to change your underwear always; you never know when you'll have an accident.
- Don't make that face or it'll stay that way.
- Be careful or else you'll put your eye out.
- What if everyone jumped over a cliff? Would you do it, too?
- You have enough dirt behind those ears to grow potatoes!
- C'mon close that door! Were you born in a barn?
- If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all.
- Don't put that thing in your mouth; you don't know where it's been!
Graduation Day for the Platteview High Seniors takes place next Sunday, May 13th, at 1:00pm in the gymnasium. A wish for the graduating class of 2007… May each and every one of you fulfill your dreams, continue the journey of learning, and live up to the expectations of those who love you. Congratulations!
