SPRINGFIELD HISTORICAL TIDBIT:
In June 1885, Ringling Brothers, showmen later of circus fame, came to Springfield - the four brothers, John, Al, Charles and Albert, via covered wagon and big bay team, all fitted for sleeping quarters for four. They rented the hall in the John T. Sexton store building on the south side, billing the town all afternoon, advertising their little Punch & Judy and song and dance entertainment. That night they packed the hall to capacity. Outside of some home talent plays, they were the first showmen to honor Springfield with their presence.
