What’s New in Springfield, NE

July 25, 2007

The Sarpy County Fair is coming right up. This is a big event for Springfield. Our small town swells with people, cars, events, and noise. We actually can’t find a place to park on Main Street! It is exciting to say the least. I know that lots of memories are made at the Fair. For 4-Her’s, when you enter your prize livestock, the produce you’ve grown, baked goods, art projects and sewing projects. Landing a ribbon or prize for your hard work makes a lasting impression. For all the kids, who purchased an armband to ride countless times on the Ferris Wheel, Octopus, Tilt – A-Whirl and Bumper Cars. Maybe you’ve survived a nauseating ride on the Zipper. For the adults who work in the Church food stand and for those of us who visit. Devouring that homemade pie is surely a memorable moment. And speaking of food, cotton candy, snow cones, lemonade, and funnel cakes are all foods that remind us of the county fair. Who can forget about the tractor pulls and rodeo? Make those unforgettable memories for the younger members of your family or relive your own recollections of a past trip to the fair. Be sure to come to Springfield, August 1st – 5th for fun, food, and fair events. For more information and a schedule of what’s happening click on this link: http://www.sarpyfair.com/

The Springfield SSAP Soccer Camp was held July 9 -13th for area soccer players. The camp was held at the Springfield soccer complex with College of St. Mary’s coaches and players instructing camp participants. Each attendee received a soccer ball and t-shirt.

Peter the Near (Great) and his Magic Show wowed ‘em at the Springfield Memorial Library on Monday, July 23rd. The end of the season party for the Summer Reading Program featured spectacular magic tricks and an ice cream social for summer readers, family and friends. Just a reminder that all reading log books must be turned in by July 31st for prizes and to be eligible for the reading contest.
