What’s New in Springfield, NE

September 12, 2007

There is a chill in the air. This week our mornings, especially, suggest a hint of the fall season to come. What a relief after that awful hot and muggy August we experienced. Now, onto a harvest season with autumn leaves, apples, pumpkins, and fall festivals.

Ok, folks, I have to brag. My handsome son, Brian, married his beautiful bride, Andrea Lape, this past weekend. Since Brian is a native of Springfield and Andrea grew up just to the south of us in Papillion, this is local news. Just the type we like to feature in our local community newsletters. So if you all have something wonderful happening in your life and would like to share it, be sure to click on the Springfield “News to the Editor” link and send in your news.

SPRINGFIELD HISTORICAL TIDBIT:
The Springfield Woman’s Club was organized in September of 1903 with 30 members. Officers were: Mrs. C. F. Calhoun, president, Mrs. J. F. Carnahan, vice president, Miss Emma Roberts, secretary, Mrs. W. H. Davidson, treasurer. It was not federated until 1908. The club purpose was to accept personal and group responsibility for no one of us can escape from the community’s unsolved problems.
