What’s New in Springfield, NE

October 17, 2007

Sweetest Day is celebrated this Saturday, October 20th. When I first heard about this holiday, I thought it involved sweets, as in food related. Well that would be my kind of holiday! But, it is actually meant as a day to give recognition to the people in your life who are sweet to you. On Sweetest Day, show someone you care by giving them a small gift or candy. That person should be someone who is kind and caring. What a sweet holiday!

Springfield’s First United Methodist Church commemorated their 125th anniversary on Sunday, October 14th. Special guests, Bishop Ann Sherer and Rev. Dr. Randy Sailors along with Rev. Eldon Davis officiated at the celebratory service. It was a day filled with gladness, prayer, and memories of the past. The festivities included music, bountiful food, and a fun magic show for the children in attendance. Congratulatory notes and remembrances were shared. An auction of a quilt created by the Methodist ladies, 2 table runners, and a table square culminated the day.

Happy 90th Birthday to Beatrice Edmonds!!!
Help Bea celebrate this wonderful occasion on Sunday October 21st at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall from 2-4pm.
