What’s New in Springfield, NE
November 28, 2007

The Christmas season is officially upon us. It's time to get out those twinkly lights, reindeer displays, Christmas greenery, and Santa décor. And yes, on Black Friday I ventured out to the mall at what I thought was going to be a safe hour, when all the hard core bargain hunters should have been on their way home to watch the Nebraska game, but just in time to take advantage of those fantastic sale prices. I was sadly mistaken and found out that apparently there are many ladies who were not interested in watching Colorado beat the Huskers at football. Finding a parking spot was a challenge. Stalking folks leaving the mall is usually a trick I employ at this festive time of the year. Eavesdropping, I heard a couple of women discussing the fighting that had taken place over items during their earlier morning shopping trip. Ahhh, the Christmas season has begun!!!
Phew! What is that smell in Springfield? The Sarpy County landfill is reeking an awful stench and it is drifting quite a distance. Landfill officials reportedly are working on a solution to the problem, but the odor seems to be worse than ever. How many of you can't wait for this smelly issue to be resolved?
