This newsletter is meant to bring the good news of small town life in the state of Nebraska. Our state’s motto is: Nebraska, the Good Life. Sadly, our good life was shattered last Wednesday by the unimaginable tragedy that happened at the Westroads Mall.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, their families, and friends, and to the many witnesses to this tragic event.  Say a prayer for the suspect’s family. They, too, are suffering. The good people of Nebraska are here to support each other through this time of unspeakable sadness, loss, and grief.

The Springfielder at Heart award was announced last Saturday night at the community dinner. This award was given to a most deserving person, Shirley Buskirk. Shirley is a tireless worker for our community and an individual who shares her time and talents to make Springfield the great place that it is.  Congratulations, Shirley!

It’s the countdown to Christmas. Usually our days are spent in the hustle and bustle of getting ready for this holiday. The weather is certainly not cooperating with all the ice and snow lately. So it’s time to stay safely at home and enjoy your precious loved ones. Crack out the games, craft supplies, and books.  This Christmas spend some quality time just having fun with your family.  Play together, read together, and share those hugs!

Give the gift of life this holiday season. The Holiday Blood Drive is this Sunday, December 16th at Springfield city hall. The Blood Drive will run from 9:30am – 3:30pm. Type O blood is needed. To make an appointment, call John at 660-0446 or visit www.givebloodgivelife.org

Despite the snowy weather folks turned out last Saturday to buy cookies at the Library’s Cookie Walk, which had been postponed due to the freezing rain the Saturday before
