It's the first week of November, and you know what that means! The Springfield Memorial Library Book Sale is THIS SATURDAY, November 7, from 9 AM to 1 PM!
But before we turn the page to this week's book sale, let's give a big THANK YOU to everyone who helped make our Pumpkin Walk another fun Halloween tradition!
With over 600 votes counted, we have our winners!

Springfield History
In small-town elections for city council and mayoral positions, recounts are often needed to ensure an accurate tally of the official votes. During the 1988 General Election, a recount was necessary for the Springfield city council race, where Virginia Buskirk and David Kildow were separated by just one vote. Following the official recount, Virginia Buskirk was declared the winner with 190 votes, while David Kildow received 189 votes. With two seats available in the election, Dennis Gosch successfully retained his city council seat by receiving 266 votes.

Insurance Tip of the Week: Is Your: WATER DAMAGE CAN GET TRICKY! 💧
We're seeing plenty of water and flooding lately, so now is a good time to review your insurance policy.
Here's something many homeowners don't realize: not all water damage is covered the same way.
A sudden pipe burst, water backing up through a drain, seepage, and flooding from rising outside water can all fall under different coverage rules.
Standard homeowners insurance generally does not cover flooding from rising surface water. Water backup coverage may also need to be added separately.
Don't wait until there's water on your floor to find out what your policy covers!

FIT TIP: Start Before You’re Ready
One thing I've learned through my own fitness journey is that consistency changes more than your body. It changes how you think, how you handle challenges, and how you approach life.
That's a big part of why I wrote Treadmill Rambles With Grace In Action. It wasn't written from one big moment of success. It came from years of early mornings, workouts, faith, setbacks, and choosing to show up again.

DID YOU KNOW? A NAME FROM THE PAST IS BACK ON THE BALLOT!
Back in 2012, Brenda Sherman was elected to the Springfield Platteview Community Schools Board of Education after receiving 1,559 votes. She finished ahead of Nick Stolzer, who received 1,492 votes, while Lori Bartels and Robert Icenogle also won seats.
Fast-forward to November 3, 2026, and Sherman's name appears on the ballot again, this time for Educational Service Unit No. 3, District 7. ESU 3 provides shared educational services, resources, and Driver ED!
A reminder that local elections can have a long history—and the people who serve our schools may continue contributing to education in different roles over the years!
