Springfield Wednesday Newsletter - June 3rd

Welcome Back!

Hey Springfield, it’s starting to feel like summer and Springfield Days is almost here.

Now that Memorial Weekend has passed, summer is officially kicking off in Springfield. That means more sunshine, more time outside, and a lot more activity around town — kids riding bikes, scooters, skateboards, walking to parks, ball fields, and spending time with friends.

It’s one of the best parts of summer. It also means we all benefit from a quick reminder to stay alert and aware so everyone can enjoy the season safely.

With more people out and about, especially in neighborhoods and near parks, it only takes a second of distraction for something to go wrong.

A few simple reminders for all of us:

  • Look both ways every time before crossing
  • Do not assume drivers see you
  • Keep phones and earbuds from becoming distractions
  • Be extra careful around parked cars and driveways
  • Make eye contact when possible
  • Stay alert at intersections and when turning into streets

And for drivers, especially this time of year, slow down, stay patient, and expect kids to be nearby. A little extra awareness goes a long way.

At the same time, there’s a lot to look forward to.

Springfield Days is almost here — June 12 through 14.

Springfield  is getting ready for one of the best weekends of the year. Springfield Days is all about celebrating what makes this town special — neighbors, families, traditions, volunteers, local organizations, and coming together as a community. Springfield History

A special census carried out by Sarpy County in 1969 revealed that the village of Springfield had a new population of 748. In comparison, the 1960 census recorded a population of 506. This growth was likely attributed to the new Gardens’ Addition, situated on North 7th, 8th Streets, and Elm Streets. Construction on the residential development began in 1961 with the first houses becoming occupied in 1962. Sarpy officials collected population figures to enhance the county’s allocation of various state appropriation funds, which were distributed based on the most recent official census data.

How exciting! Platteview High School took the stage at Omaha’s historic Orpheum Theater this weekend as part of the Nebraska Theater Academy Showcase, and what an incredible experience it was!

After earning the Nebraska High School Theater Academy’s Outstanding Musical Theatre Production award for Grease, the cast performed a medley from the show alongside some of Nebraska’s top high school theatre programs. One thing became immediately clear: no one appreciates musical theatre quite like a packed house full of theatre students. The applause, cheering, and energy throughout the performance were unforgettable.

Fit Tip of the Week: What You Practice, You Become

It’s Shorts Season — get outside and move!  There are plenty of parks around to get your steps in and enjoy the longer days.

June is all about becoming on purpose. What you practice is what you become — not what you plan, not what you hope.

It’s easy to be fit. It’s easy not to be. The difference is what you do consistently.

Want more strength? Lift a little heavier. Want more energy? Keep moving daily. Every rep, every step, every choice is a vote for the life you want.
