In Honor of  Memorial Day

Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day. It began as an occasion for honoring soldiers who died in the Civil War, and was named after the tradition of laying wreaths, flowers, and flags on their graves, a custom that remains today. Following World War I, Memorial Day was expanded to commemorate all who lost their lives while in military service and became an official federal holiday in 1971.
