Welcome Back Springfield!
Happy Halloween Eve, Springfield!
Just a quick reminder that tomorrow, starting at 1:45 p.m., our elementary students will be parading down Main Street, bringing Halloween spirit to the heart of our community! Local businesses will be out to hand candy to the kids, creating a festive, fun, and safe environment for all.
To ensure everyone’s safety, especially all the little ghosts and goblins, please drive with extra caution along Main Street during this time. Let’s make it a memorable and safe Halloween for everyone!
Why did the ghost go to the party?
Because he heard it was going to be a howl of a good time!

It Happened in Springfield
In October 1989, the Wednesday Story Hour children at Springfield Public Library celebrated Halloween
by trick or treating at Springfield Main Street businesses. They walked from the Library with Librarian,
Charlene Harding, and their parents to visit Springfield Drug Store & Soda Fountain, Liebentritt Family
Dentistry, and Springfield Country Market grocery store to show off their costumes and trick or treat.
Photo 1: Librarian, Charlene Harding, leads the way to Main Street from the old Library at City Hall, 170
No. 3 rd Street.

treats to the Library Story Hour children.

COME ON OVER!
This is the way country music started out, with acoustic instruments, before electricity. People sat out on the lawn, on the porch, or in a friend’s house and played their instruments together.
Enjoy the originality of music which is still present in many circles of friends.

Historic Halloween Fact: Did you know that Halloween’s origins trace back over 2,000 years to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain? Celebrated on October 31st, Samhain marked the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter, a time when the Celts believed the boundary between the living and the dead blurred, and spirits could walk among us. To ward them off, people would wear costumes and light bonfires—a tradition that evolved into our modern Halloween!
