Welcome Back - Springfield!!

Hey Springfield, There is SO much going on in Springfield right now, I don’t even know where to start… so first off — GOOD LUCK and CONGRATS to all the soon to be Graduates!!

Today, May 13th, is the last day of public school for the Class of 2026 seniors, and graduation is this Sunday. WHOA. That came fast.

To all the graduates: I wish you the absolute best. Take every opportunity to better your life, work hard, stay humble, and chase your goals full speed. Life moves fast, so take the chances, learn from the mistakes, and keep pushing forward.

And to the moms, dads, grandparents, teachers, coaches, and everyone who helped get these kids this far — good job. Raising humans is no small task.

Congrats Class of 2026 — now go make your mark on the world!

The library always has something going on for all ages, so be sure to stop in and see what is new.

 Lucky Duck Tickets

You can pick up ducks at the Library, Woodland Animal Hospital, Springfield ArtWorks, Keith’s Soda Fountain, reMain, and Horizon Bank. Every single duck sold matters — because every duck directly helps us reach our fundraising goal for the library and the amazing programs it brings to our community.

This isn’t just a fun event… it’s what keeps story time, summer reading, youth programs, and community events alive and growing. The more ducks we sell, the stronger our library becomes.

So grab a few. Grab more than a few. Sell them, share them, and help push us closer to the goal.

Also available:
• Gift cards for Dairy Cream (generously donated by Adam Stoskopf at Farmers)
• Gift cards for Mickey’s Tavern and the Blind Pig

If you would like to donate or get involved, please contact the library directly. Every duck truly helps support the Springfield Friends of the Library and everything they do for our community.

Farmers Market

Plan to stroll through the booths, grab something fresh, and make a day of it. Bring the kids, bring a friend, meet up with neighbors, or just wander and enjoy the summer energy.

MoPac Trail is right there if you want to walk it off or Bike cruise before or after. And yes—there’s even a winery right across the way if you’re making it a “grown-up afternoon out” kind of day.

Got something you make or grow? This is your sign—set up a booth and be part of the fun. You never know who’s been looking for exactly what you’ve got.

Join us at the VFW (13600 Pflug Rd). Spread the word.

New Tornado Shelter Added in 1978 at Beck Trailer Court

Just in time for the 1978 spring storm season, Beck Trailer Court, 105 Maple St., installed a new
tornado shelter for its residents.
 The underground shelter was constructed by Clarence Zwiebel, who gathered ideas and pricing
for shelters while vacationing in Arkansas.
 It was made from reinforced concrete sewer tubes, standing seven feet high and twelve feet long,
and included air vents.
 One end of the shelter was secured with cinder blocks, while the entrance featured sturdy steel
doors.
 Stairs were built to provide access to the shelter.
 To ensure residents are prepared for extended stays, emergency

Springfield NOW

On May 6th, the Springfield Fire Department training members received an orientation of  new engine by Todd Clyne and Tom Negley with MacQueen Equipment.

They took the time to walk the members through the new truck and all of its features. Training and familiarization are an important part of keeping our department prepared to serve the community safely and effectively.

Insurance Tip of the Week- Know What Your Insurance Actually Covers

Nebraska just reported another small earthquake, which reminds us that even in low-risk states, standard homeowners insurance usually does NOT cover earthquake damage. Most people don’t need extra coverage—but if a major quake ever hits, repairs would come straight out of pocket. It’s a good idea to at least know your policy limits and ask: “Am I protected if the ground moves?”

Fit Tip of the Week: Routines work — if you stick with them.

It doesn’t have to be fancy. Consistency beats perfection every time. Show up, put the work in, and keep going. Keep it simple. Show up, put in the work, repeat.

The goal is not perfection. The goal is consistency. A little strength today helps build independence for tomorrow.
