Hey Springfield, We hope you had a chance to enjoy Springfield Days! It was a hoot watching our town come alive with smiles, laughter, and neighbors making memories together. A special thank you goes out to everyone who supported the Friends of the Springfield Library Lucky Duck Race.
The event would not have been possible without the generous sponsors, businesses, organizations, and individuals who donated prizes and supported the fundraiser. Your kindness helps our library continue serving the community, and we are grateful for every duck purchased, every prize donated, and every volunteer who lent a hand. Father's Day is Coming Up!
This Sunday is Father's Day, a time to celebrate the dads, grandpas, stepdads, and father figures who have helped shape our lives. If you're looking for a way to treat Dad, consider taking him out for a meal at Mickey's, Blind Pig, or Sweet Rice and enjoy some local flavor together.
We are also blessed with many wonderful churches in our community where we can take a moment to give thanks for the fathers in our lives. Whether your dad is still with you, far away, or remembered fondly, Father's Day is a chance to appreciate the role fathers play in our families and community.
Life without fathers would look very different. They teach us, encourage us, protect us, challenge us, and often show their love through actions more than words. Happy Father's Day, Springfield! Be sure to Have a Donut on the Library!

The Springfield Memorial Library is celebrating its 100th Anniversary with a special Library Festival on Saturday, June 27th at 7:00 p.m.
The evening will feature entertainment by Omaha Street Percussion (OSP), known for their high-energy performances that turn ordinary objects into extraordinary music. The celebration will take place outside the Springfield Memorial Library and promises to be a fun event for all ages.
For 100 years, our library has been more than a building filled with books. It has been a place of learning, imagination, community, and connection. Join your neighbors as we celebrate a century of stories and look forward to the next 100 years of serving Springfield.

The Farmers Market is getting ready to kick off, and this year they are making things even more fun with themed events throughout the season!

Looking for something fun to do with Dad this Father's Day? Challenge him to a game of pickleball! It's easy to learn, great exercise, and a lot more fun than arguing over who gets the TV remote.
If you've never tried it, now is the perfect opportunity. Grab a paddle, hit the court, and make some memories together. Who knows? Dad might still have a few tricks up his sleeve!
Spots are limited, so you’ll need to reserve a one-hour time slot in advance. Participants must be 19 or older, and registration requires a Facility Use Agreement, liability waiver, and ID copy.

Springfield History
On April 28, 1974, the Springfield Volunteer Fire Department hosted an Open House to unveil a new addition to the Fire Hall, along with a new $25,000 pumper truck. The pumper truck was funded through the efforts of the volunteer fire department and tax contributions from the village of Springfield and the rural fire district.
The event featured a demonstration of the “Jaws of Life,” a crucial tool used to pry openwrecked vehicles, along with a new metal saw. Both pieces of equipment played a vital role inresponding to car accidents. Approximately 150 community members attended the open house,
where coffee and cookies were served to guests.

Another wonderful Springfield Days in the books, A special congratulations to this year's Grand Marshals, Bill and LaVerna Sayer.
Many residents were delighted to see them riding down Main Street in a beautiful classic car during the parade. For decades, Bill and LaVerna dedicated themselves to the students of Springfield and Platteview Schools, helping shape generations of young people through their service as educators.
Their kindness, commitment, and love for this community have left a lasting impact on Springfield. Thank you, Bill and LaVerna, for all you have done and continue to do. We couldn't think of two more deserving Grand Marshals.
Springfield is fortunate to call you neighbors and friends.

Insurance Tip of the Week: Know What Your Insurance Actually Covers
A lot of people assume “I’m covered” means everything is covered — but that’s where surprises hit.
One big blind spot: animal damage.
Damage from animals (like rodents chewing wiring, birds nesting, raccoons in attics, or squirrels getting into vehicles) is often limited or excluded depending on the policy and cause. In many cases:
- Home policies may cover sudden accidental damage, but not long-term “infestation or wear”
- Auto policies often don’t cover interior damage from rodents unless you have comprehensive coverage and it’s clearly a covered loss
- Some carriers classify it as “preventable maintenance issue,” not a sudden peril
Bottom line: don’t assume it’s included. Read the section on exclusions and limitations, especially under “vermin,” “rodents,” or “animals.”
A quick 10-minute policy review can save a very expensive surprise later.

Did You Know?
Father's Day was first celebrated on June 19, 1910, in Spokane, Washington. Sonora Smart Dodd wanted to honor her father, a Civil War veteran who raised six children on his own after the death of his wife.
While many people supported the idea, it took more than 60 years before Father's Day became an official national holiday. In 1972, President Richard Nixon signed a proclamation making Father's Day a permanent celebration on the third Sunday of June each year.
