Hey Springfield, I hope your Independence Day celebration was perfect and that you—and all your loved ones—still have all your fingers attached!

Fireworks are a lot of fun, but they can also be dangerous. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), hands and fingers are the most commonly injured body parts, accounting for about 36% of fireworks-related emergency room injuries each year.

Now that the smoke has cleared and the Fourth of July is behind us, summer is in full swing!

The town is buzzing with activities, neighbors are out enjoying the sunshine, and there's still plenty of summer left to make memories. Whether you're visiting the farmers market, attending community events, riding your bike, enjoying a local park, or simply spending time with family and friends, there's something for everyone.

So grab an ice cream, take an evening walk, support a local business, and enjoy everything our wonderful community has to offer.

Lasagna Love Now Serving Springfield

Life can be a lot sometimes. Financial struggles, health challenges, caring for loved ones, or simply trying to keep up with the demands of everyday life can leave people feeling overwhelmed. The reality is that many people who need help don't always show it.

That's where Lasagna Love comes in. This wonderful volunteer-driven organization connects neighbors with neighbors by delivering free homemade lasagnas to individuals and families who could use a little extra support. There are no strings attached, no income requirements, and no judgment—just a warm meal and a reminder that someone cares.

We are excited to share that volunteers are now serving the Springfield area. If you or someone you know could benefit from a free home-cooked meal, whether due to financial, emotional, family, or health-related challenges, help is available.

Sometimes the greatest gift is simply knowing you're not alone.

The June 28th Springfield Farmers Market was A huge Success! What a great bunch of people for pushing through the heat and showing up strong. I was too late for the kolachies, but I did score a USA 250 tank top—and honestly, that might be even better anyway.

Pickleball! It's easy to learn, great exercise, and a lot more fun than arguing over who gets the TV remote.

If you've never tried it, now is the perfect opportunity. Grab a paddle, hit the court, and make some memories together. Who knows? Dad might still have a few tricks up his sleeve!

Spots are limited, so you’ll need to reserve a one-hour time slot in advance. Participants must be 19 or older, and registration requires a Facility Use Agreement, liability waiver, and ID copy.

Springfield's 1982 Centennial Celebration

In 1982, Springfield commemorated its centennial anniversary. Community members establishedthe Springfield Centennial Committee to organize a two-day celebration on July 3rd and 4th. Anofficial Centennial Proclamation reading and reception took place on Saturday, February 27, atthe American Legion Hall. Activities were scheduled at Buffalo Park, City Park, the Community Building, and Sarpy County Fairgrounds, featuring a full lineup of events for both days of the centennial festivities. More to come about the 1982 Centennial Celebration next week.

Photo 3: Centennial Quiz: One of the buildings featured in the photo was relocated from Sarpy Center to the new town of Springfield. After several years, it was moved again and served various purposes, including a lodge hall, doctor's offices, library, beauty shop, and town hall. In 1941, the building was moved to a different area in Sarpy County and transformed into a residence.
