Have you hugged a veteran today? If not, you’ll have your chance to hug one, two or maybe a whole room of veterans on February 7, 2009 at a special event planned to honor them and at the same time raise funds for a special memorial designed especially for our military veterans.
The event, which will include dinner, a silent auction, entertainment, and a very unique auction of “Men in Uniform”, will begin at 5pm and be held at the American Legion Hall in Papillion, 230 W. Lincoln St. (about 1 block west of 84th St. and Lincoln in downtown Papillion).  Entertainment will be provided by a Barbershop Quartet and the auction will feature some of our local area’s very handsome and very dedicated military veterans. Would you like a special evening with a US Marine or a handsome gentleman from the Air Force? Then you won’t want to miss this auction!
Admission to the event is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. All proceeds go to benefit the Veterans Memorial Garden under construction on the campus of the Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home in Bellevue. You can purchase your tickets at the door or buy tickets in advance by calling Aimee Middleton at 402-672-5050.

I was fortunate to be able to attend the 2009 Cathedral Flower Festival in Omaha this past weekend. This years show featured unique quilts crafted by regional quilters paired with floral designer’s interpretations. The show was quite spectacular!  I was thrilled to recognize artists from our local area at the Quilts & Flower Show.
