Third-Annual “Doggy Day” Planned at Bloom Where You’re Planted Farm
Avoca, NE – October 1, 2009 On Saturday, October 10th, Bloom Where You’re Planted Farm is going to the dogs for an event to benefit the Capital Humane Society.
For the third year in a row, farm owners Terry and Teresa Lorensen are inviting visitors to bring their canine companions to the pumpkin patch. Canine admission is $4.00 (the same cost as human admission) and all canine admission proceeds will be donated to the Capital Humane Society. In addition, sales of Halloween-themed neckerchiefs will be donated to the organization, and donation jars will be in place so that even those who don’t bring a dog can participate.
Volunteers from the Capital Humane Society will be on-site from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. with a selection of dogs which can be adopted from their location at 2320 Park Boulevard in Lincoln, NE.
“Many of the animals we have here at the farm, including our dog Rocket, have been adopted, and we want to help other animals who need new homes,” said Lorensen.

"Lie, Cheat and Genuflect" at the Lofte
The fast-paced farce, written by William Van Zandt and Jane Milmore revolves around the two "black sheep" of the wealthy Buckle family. Two bumbling brothers fell out of their grandfather's favor several years ago, and know they don't have a chance at receiving any money. But, due to a string of unfortunate bets at the track, they're in debt to a low-rent loan shark. In their desperation, the brothers cook up a scheme to have one of them pose as their grandfather's favorite, a female cousin who happens to be a nun! A cast of colorful characters including a wine-swilling maid and a rookie lawyer add to the mayhem. Director Kevin Colbert suggests a PG-13 rating for the production, and advises that some situations may not be suitable for very young children.
Kevin Colbert of Weeping Water plays the scheming brother, Tom, who has all the answers. Have you ever seen a nun with five o'clock shadow? A Lofte favorite, Jamion Biesterfeld of Louisville will spend half his time as brother Billy and the other half as the fictitious "Sister Fernando." Other cast members include Anne Pope and Christina Tipken of Eagle, Shari Hoelker of Omaha, Dave Hibler and Kevin Holdorf of Manley,
Performance dates are Oct 9-11, 16-18 and 22-25. Curtain times are Thursday-Sautrday at 7:30pm and Sundays at 2pm. Tickets are $16 and may be purchased by calling the Lofte box office at (402) 234-2553 or online at www.Lofte.com.
Greenblatt & Seay proudly announce the THIRTEENTH ANNUAL SCHOOLHOUSE FIDDLING BEE. This historical, hysterical event will take place on Sunday, October 11, at 2:30 PM, in the auditorium of the Old Avoca, Nebraska Schoolhouse. The prizes for the winners in the Open Division are $100 for 1st place, $50 for 2nd place, and $25 for 3rd place. Prizes will also be awarded for 1st place in the other contests.
