SPRINGFIELD ARTWORKS
Glenn and Margie Trembley of Springfield ArtWorks have volunteered to man the Nebraska State Tourism booth at the state fair in Grand Island on Sept 4th. Any tourism related industries or organizations in Springfield are welcome to drop off brochures at the gallery during regular hours. Trembleys will be promoting all tourism in the Springfield area at the state fair.
The state tourism conference will be held in Lincoln from October 12-14. Trembley said, "Last years event was very beneficial for me. I hope other organizations from Springfield can attend this event since it is held so close to home." The principal speakers at these events are national speakers who really know the tourism market. Attending these events really gets the word out about our great community, Trembley said. There are scholarships available to attend the conference. Deadline for applying is Sept 13. AUGUST 29TH
The Great Plains Bicycling Club (GPBC) is sponsoring the 6th annual Heatstroke 100 bicycle ride through Saunders, Sarpy, and Cass Counties on Sunday August 29th. The ride starts at the SAC Museum and includes three loops totaling 105 miles.
The three routes explore the scenic Platte River valley and pass through the towns of Ashland, Louisville, South Bend, and Ceresco. Two of the loops cross the Lied Platte River Bridge. The loop distances are 24, 35, and 46 miles. Riders can cycle one, two, or all three of the loops. The ride begins at 7:30 a.m. and the last of the riders should be finished by 5:30 p.m.
Depending upon the weather, the ride is expected to draw 250-300 riders. Along the routes on roads with no shoulders there will be signs stating "Caution: Cyclist Ahead". The club also has 2 - 3 roving SAG vehicles along the loops to assist riders who have equipment failure or simply "run out of gas". In addition, members of the Lancaster County Ham Radio Club are providing communications along the route.
Several stationary SAG stops with snacks and beverages will greet riders along the route. Grilled brats will be available afterwards at the SAC Museum. Registration fees are $25 for an individual or $50 for a family.
