 Whose Wives 3

"Whose Wives Are They Anyway?"

Find Out at the Lofte!

Take two company vice presidents and put them on a nice leisurely golf weekend.  Sprinkle in their wives who are out of town on a shopping excursion.  Combine with a new boss who insists on meeting the spouses.  Add a heaping handful of misunderstanding, desperation and top off with a man in a dress.  The result is the hilarious show, "Whose Wives Are They Anyway?" opening at the Lofte Community Theatre in Manley on Saturday, October 20.

Written by the champion of American farce, Michael Parker and Directed by and starring Lofte Artistic Director, Kevin Colbert, "Whose Wives," is a PG-13 story of two men desperately trying to impress their new female boss.  Starring as the hapless "friend to the end" is Lincoln radio personality and Lofte veteran, Mick Kovar.  Playing the intimidating new boss is Melinda Mead of Plattsmouth.  Rounding out the cast is Brenna Jean Thompson of Lincoln, Shari Hoelker of Omaha, Roland Kelley of rural Otoe, Toni Santee of Plattsmouth and Rev. Dr. Renae Koehler of Firth.

The play runs October 20, 21, 26-28 and November 1-4.  Tickets are $17 each.  Curtain times are 7:30pm Thursday through Saturday.  All Sunday performances are 2pm matinees.  Reservations for tickets can be made by calling the Lofte box office at 402.234.2553.

Fiddling Contest Rsults

The Sixteenth Annual Schoolhouse Fiddling Bee in Avoca, Nebraska, was enjoyed by a full house on Sunday afternoon, October 14, in The Old Avoca Schoolhouse.

Musicians from Bellevue, Bennington, Lincoln, Omaha, and Ord, competed and jammed with their fiddles, guitars, and recorders, for cash money and prizes.  The judges had a difficult job, but managed to make wonderful decisions.   The judges were Jim Durdin, from Clarinda, Iowa, and Alana Hux, from Lincoln, Nebraska.

In the Open Division, each fiddler had to play a hoedown, a waltz, and a tune of choice.  The winners were:

First Place - Zachary Brom, from Omaha
Second Place - Mike Oneel, from Ord
Third Place - Fiala Peters, from Omaha

In the Singing Division, each fiddler has to play and sing a tune at the same time.  The winner was Devin Cartwright, who was accompanied on the guitar by his Grandmother, Deborah Mosier.

In the Fee Fi Faux Division, each musician had to play a fiddle tune on an instrument that is not a fiddle.  The winner was Sharon Roberts-Yuen, from Lincoln, who played Irish Washerwoman on the bass recorder, the alto recorder, and the sopranino recorder.

In the Hocus Pous Division, the fiddler had to play a tune using cross-tuning, sound effects, dancing, etc.  The winner was Hanilla VanKirk, from Omaha, who played a fiddle tune while standing on one foot.

Next year, the 17th Annual Schoolhouse Fiddling Bee will be held on Sunday, October 13, 2013.
