IT HAPPENED IN SPRINGFIELD HISTORY

History Theater

The Springfield Theater was located in the old Legion and Corky's Workshop building.

Advertisement from the Springfield Monitor newspaper

The building located at 121 Main Street was converted into a movie theater during the early 1930’s. The  Springfield Theater was managed and owned by Ben Loptin and Harry Coyne. They also owned the movie theater in Gretna. Carson Smith ran the film at the theater in Springfield showing the  latest movies along with the newsreels (news stories) before the main attraction.  Admission prices ran from 5¢ to 15¢. The Springfield Theater closed in the early 1950’s and the building was sold to the American Legion. The building recently housed Corky’s Workshop and Antiques store.

SARPY COUNTY HELP LINE

The Sarpy County Sheriff's Office along with Sarpy County Human Services has established a help line for the citizens of Sarpy County during the COVID-19 pandemic event. Starting today, people who are sick, elderly, or caretakers of this demographic in Sarpy County may call the Sarpy County Sheriff Helpline at 402-593-1593 for needs such as picking up prescriptions, groceries, or other necessities. A uniformed Sarpy County Sheriff's Deputy will pick up and deliver these items in a marked police cruiser. This helpline may also be utilized by the general public to make non-emergency police reports via telephone that do not require a police officer present in their home.

The following providers are participating in this program:

Bakers at 36th St & Twin Creek Dr
Bakers at 801 Galvin Rd (Pharmacy Only)

Laughter

National Let’s Laugh Day

March 19, 2021

National Let’s Laugh Day Is celebrated every year on March 19th. Laughter helps people relax and reduces stress.

Here are some ways you can celebrate this happy day:

  • Laugh out loud for a few minutes.
  • Spend some time reading jokes and funny stories.
  • Watch a funny movie.

Did You Know…

…that children laugh more than adults? An average toddler laughs about 400 times a day, while an average adult tends to laugh about 15-20 times a day.

Life is better when you are laughing.

M.U.D. & OPPD customers can apply for

new state rental and utility assistance program

Renters and landlords who are struggling financially because of COVID-19 can now apply for assistance with rent and utilities under the state’s new Emergency Rental Assistance Program. The program, which recently launched, is funded through the U.S. Treasury as part of a federal coronavirus relief package.

Omaha Public Power District and Metropolitan Utilities District want to encourage customers who qualify for the program to apply. Customers within Douglas County, the City of Omaha, Lancaster County and the City of Lincoln do not qualify for the state’s program because those areas are receiving federal funds directly. They will operate rental and utility assistance programs separately from the State.

To learn more about the state’s program, customers should visit coronavirus.nebraska.gov. They can also call 1-833-500-8810 to reach the state’s contact center for more information, including eligibility guidelines, documentation requirements, and additional utility assistance programs.

 To apply, visit: https://mcrcares.servicenowservices.com/nebraska_rental_assistance

Customers may reach utilities directly to find out what other financial help may be available:

  • For information on M.U.D.’s assistance program, customers may visit mudomaha.com/covid19relief or call 502-554-6666 in the Omaha area, or toll-free outside of the area at 1-800-732-5864.
  • OPPD customers may visit oppd.com/EAP for more information. Those within the Omaha area can also call 402-536-4131 or 1-800-536-4131 toll-free, outside of the Omaha calling area.
