IT HAPPENED IN SPRINGFIELD HISTORY

Twenty years ago on a sunny summer day, Springfield Memorial Library dedicated it’s new building located at 665 Main Street. Moving into the new facility began the week before with the help of a moving company and many volunteers to pack up library materials and furnishings. The new library was a dream come true that began six years before by a group of library supporters, library board, and staff. The ceremony took place on Sunday June 24, 2001 and began with the dedication of an American flag by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9558 and Springfield American Legion Post 143. Festivities continued inside where Library Board president, Jean Gottsch, thanked the many benefactors who helped make the new Springfield Memorial Library a reality.
