The Springfield Volunteer Fire Department will host a Fire Prevention Family Fun Night & BBQ this coming Saturday, October 18th from 5-9pm at the Sarpy County Fairgrounds.  Admission is free but donations will be greatly appreciated!  Activities planned include:
For the kids:
·         Free fire prevention materials
·         Meet “Smoky the Bear” and Sarpy the firefighter
·         E911 simulator
·         Jr. Firefighter obstacle course
·         Jaws of Life demonstration
·         Fire  extinguisher  demonstration
·         Rescue Squads and Fire Trucks on display
·         Springfield Elementary coloring contest winners display
 
For the Adults:
·         Free fire prevention materials
·         Free smoke detectors (installation available)
·         Free Blood Pressure checks
·         CPR demonstration and instruction
·         Husker Football (if televised game available)
·         Learn more about becoming a member

 A Step Ahead Childcare and Education will be opening October 27 at the new Springfield Plaza on Hwy 50 & Platteview Rd. This new center accepts infants and preschool children.  Sign up for SSAP Basketball.  1st – 6th grade boys and girls may register October 5 -November 8 online at www.ssap.org   Check under the “Basketball” tab for registration information.

How about that odd simultaneous rain and sun event happening in Springfield last Saturday?  I snapped photos before heading into work, but the rain and sunshine continued for quite a while after that.

The 31st and “last” Richfield Run was held last Sunday, October 12 in our neighboring town of Richfield, NE.  Runners lined up to race 3 miles, 10 miles or (for the kids) a 1 mile run. Springfield runners were there to participate in this long tradition.

November 8, 9am – 2pm – First United Methodist Church annual Craft Fair & Luncheon. Lunch will be served from 11am – 1pm.  This event is sponsored by the Round Tuits.
