Hey Springfield, We're heading into the last week of July, which means it's time for one of our favorite local traditions—the 89th Annual Sarpy County Fair!
July 29 – August 2, 2026
All the fun Starts today, from Free addmission family friendly and the rodeos,tractor pulls to 4-H exhibits, carnival rides, delicious fair food, live entertainment, and family fun, there's something for everyone. Whether you're cheering at the grandstand events or strolling through the exhibits, it's a great way to celebrate our community. The fair also features free entertainment and many non-ticketed activities throughout the week.

Sweet Corn on Main Street!
If you've lived in Springfield for any length of time, chances are you know Dan Gotta. The Gotta family has been part of our community for generations, and once again they're bringing fresh-picked sweet corn from the family farm to Main Street.
Stop by, say hello, and grab some of the best sweet corn around. For just $6, you'll get at least a dozen ears—and maybe a few extra if you're lucky!
Nothing says summer in Springfield like fresh sweet corn from a local family farm.

Springfield History
In 1958, one of the oldest structures on Main Street was demolished. This two-story frame
building had served its purpose and was no longer functional.
Throughout the years, the building hosted numerous businesses that were well-known to thecommunity, particularly among longtime residents. These included Fackler & Son Hardware, Garret Hardware, Starry and Zimmerman Restaurants, Fischer Beauty Salon, and Dr. Staubiz's office. Additionally, the second floor was home to Keitch Photography, with many of its photographs displayed in Springfield homes.
The upper level also served as living quarters. For several years leading up to its demolition, O.W. Joern Store utilized the building for storage purposes.

Fit Tip of the Week-Mexican Street Corn (Healthy Style!)
Picked up some sweet corn from Dan Gotta? Here's a healthy way to enjoy one of summer's best treats!
Healthy Mexican Street Corn
- 4 ears fresh sweet corn
- 2 tablespoons plain Greek yogurt
- 1 tablespoon light mayonnaise (optional)
- Juice of 1 lime
- ¼ cup crumbled cotija or feta cheese
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
- Salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
- Grill or boil the corn until tender.
- Mix the Greek yogurt, mayonnaise, and lime juice.
- Brush the mixture over the warm corn.
- Sprinkle with cotija cheese, chili powder, smoked paprika, and cilantro.
- Finish with a squeeze of fresh lime.
Nutrition (per ear):
- Calories: ~160
- Protein: 7g
- Carbohydrates: 24g
- Fiber: 3g
- Fat: 5g
Fresh sweet corn is a whole grain that's naturally high in fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants. Skip the heavy butter and use Greek yogurt for extra protein while keeping all the amazing flavor. Buy local, eat fresh, and fuel your body well!

Did You Know?
The Sarpy County Fair has been a summer tradition for 89 years, but the roots of the fair go back even farther. Historical records show the Sarpy County Agricultural Society was holding county fairs as early as 1895, when the fair took place in Papillion. Today, the fairgrounds in Springfield continue that tradition by celebrating agriculture, 4-H, livestock, local businesses, and family fun for new generations.
