Springfield Historical Tidbit:
January 12, 1883 was the Day of the Great Blizzard. School children in Springfield had just been dismissed as the suddenness and fury of the blizzard hit. The fathers in town left their places of business at once to lead the children out of the wilderness of the storm. In more sparely populated areas of the state, this blizzard proved to be a grim historical event.
