What’s New in Springfield, NE
January 24, 2007

Snow Again!! We have experienced our second week-end of snow. Break out the snow shovels, snow blowers, and the sleds. Did you make a snowman? Have a fun time in the snow!

Thanks to Louie and Mike for plowing Springfield’s streets. Great job, guys!

Remember our fine feathered friends. Winter is the perfect time to set up a feeding station for the birds living in your yard. Birds naturally hunt for seeds at this time of the year. With snow covering most of the habitat now, setting out a bird feeder will provide a source of food and give you the enjoyment of bird watching from your window. The best seeds to purchase will be individual bags of sunflower, safflower, millet and niger. A good tip is to not buy the bags of mixed seeds since those contain fillers. Most birds will only eat the seeds they like and leave the rest to rot. Just remember to keep your bird feeders full throughout the winter when food is scare. Watching the many varied birds that will visit your feeding stations is a great way to pass a frigid winter day.
