This is the last week of school. It is also the very last week of teaching for a number of teachers in the South Sarpy School District. For all the retiring teachers, we want to say goodbye and best wishes for the future:

Memorial Day will be observed this coming Monday, May 26. The Springfield American Legion Post is hosting a Memorial Day Observance at the Springfield Cemetery on Sunday May 25 at 6:00pm. Everyone is welcome to come and pay tribute to the men and women who have died in military service to our country.
Don’t miss this artistic event right here in Springfield! May 24, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and May 25, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., is the Weiss Art Festival at Weiss Studios and Gardens, 13603 Pflug Road, Springfield, Neb. Stroll the two-acred gardens while visiting regional artists, including studio owner Carl Weiss and son, Adam, and Susanne Bradley, Dave Brintnall, Ali Buda, Judy Crouch, Howard Greene, Nancy Greene, Deirdre Johnson, Janet Syas Nitsick and Valerie Robert. No entrance charge.
Surf into Springfield on June 6 & 7 for Springfield Days. This fun family event features a vast array of activities for young and old. So be sure to invite your family and friends for Springfield Idol, the fireworks show, the flea market, the kid’s band “The String Beans”, the parades, the street dance and a number of other events. “Catch the Reading Bug” at Springfield Memorial Library this summer. Summer Reading Club registration begins May 19th. Programs with books, special guest presentations, and crafts will be taking place throughout the months of June and July. Be sure to stop by to sign up to read and to pick up a brochure with all the information about the library’s summer activities. June 9 – Springfield Memorial Library Summer Reading Programs begin. Preschool Storytime will start at 9:30am with the Elementary Age program at 1:00pm. Come to the library all summer to “Catch the Reading Bug”.
June 12, 6:30pm – Springfield Memorial Garden Club meeting. Everyone is welcome to attend. Edi Pierce will present “English Garden Treasures: Great Britain’s West Country and Chelsea Flower Show”.

It is likely that no woman in Sarpy County has done as much knitting for the Red Cross as has Mrs. Henry Mundt, Sr. of Springfield, who has completed 50 pair of socks and three sweaters since last fall.
