WHAT’S NEW IN SPRINGFIELD, NE
October 29, 2008
Happy Halloween Everyone!!! Hope you’ve purchased lots of treats to pass out to all those Trick o’ Treaters who will be venturing to your door. It should be a bootiful Friday evening with spooktacular temperatures. Have a fun and safe Halloween Night!
Sarpy County Sheriff Jeff Davis and our partners M.A.D.D. wish everyone a safe a happy Halloween holiday. In doing so he would like to provide the following safety tips for parents and drivers in the areas where children trick or treating will be present:
· Don't use a cell phone while driving through neighborhoods. A single distraction could lead to a tragedy.
· Drive well below the posted speed limit.
· Pay attention to what's happening on sidewalks and roads. Watch for children running across streets
*and between parked cars.
· Be extra alert when pulling in and out of driveways.
· Do not assume children can see you or are paying attention. You need to take that responsibility.
· Check that all lights on your car work.
· Do not pass other vehicles that have stopped in the road. They could be dropping off children.
· Put your hazard lights on to alert other motorists if you're driving a group of children and stopped along a curb.
· Put your mask on after you park your car if you're driving to a Halloween party.
Sheriff Davis also announces that extra patrols will be out assisting parents and children in neighborhoods. Remember that Halloween is Friday night. Two thirds of all highway fatal crashes on Halloween are alcohol related. Don’t even think of getting behind the wheel of a car if you have been drinking. Please report any suspected drunk or impaired drivers to 911.
Let’s all make sure that everyone brings home treats, not tragedies this Halloween.
