With the formation of the new School District #46, the school board made the decision to auction off six rural school buildings along with the contents of the schools.  Before the auction date, an agreement was made with the Cornish family, owners of the land adjoining Buffalo School, was reached to purchase the school and its contents.  For the five remaining schools, a traveling auction proceeded on April 25, 1959, selling off Pflug, Snider, Fairview, Chase, and Frazeur schools. Leon Ruff was the auctioneer and school district representative, Lawrence Iske, handled the arrangements.  All sales were cash and the property had to be removed immediately except for the buildings which had to be removed within sixty days. Most of the buildings were eventually turned into residences.

SPRINGFIELD AREA MASTER GARDENERS NEWS

Spring Flowers

When Can You Plant 1

It always amazes me this time of year how fast people want to get outside. Is your house filled with plants eagerly waiting for their garden debut? Mine is.

I have included in this article a little chart from the Douglas/Sarpy Extension about planting temps and days for some of your chosen babies.

Your flocks should be blooming now as well as some irises. Medium tall bearded iris are adorable and easy to grow. Don't be intimidated.

We rejuvenated our container planters by removing all the soil. Then add loosen, mixed 10% omagro, fill pot halfway, and with other half add 1 cup worm castings, 1/2 c refresh and add additional ingredients that work for you, and refill. Now that's our mixture for container soil upgrade but you may have a different way to do it and that’s fine. We try and do this every 4 to 5 years.

We are on the verge of adding color around the garden so keep your eyes out.
