A one-room country school, Sanborn School was located at 174th & Fairview Rd. In 1869, the first school building was built. A new school was constructed in 1872 and operated until 1957 when Sarpy County schools were consolidated. Sanborn School pupils went to the one-room school through the eighth grade. They could choose between Gretna and Springfield for their high school. Ginny Lorenz Adair, a Springfield resident, went to Sanborn School from 1937 to 1945. Students within a 2 ½ mile radius would walk to and from school every day. She recalled that every year, they invited their families to a Christmas program and a celebration on the last day of classes that included a program and picnic dinner. Sanborn School was also attended by Don Scholting Sr. Leroy, his father, who attended Sanborn School as well, built a swing set and teeter-totter out of steel for the school. The swing set still remained on his grandson Don Jr.'s property as of 2020. The school structure was on Kolbo property when Sanborn School closed. Afterward, the old school was used for grain storage. In 1996 saw the final demolition of the building.
