Let’s help make downtown Springfield shine bright with cheer!

And before we wrap things up, a little sweet news…
The Friends of the Library will soon be calling for the annual cookies! Yep — it’s that time of year again when the whole town turns into one giant bakery. We bake the cookies, we buy the cookies, and honestly… how fabulous is that? It’s one of those traditions that just feels like Springfield.

Let’s keep it going strong.

Westmont Elementary

Every year the Knights of Columbus at St. Joseph's Church in Springfield very generously donates coats for children who need them. The cold weather is right around the corner, and we do go to recess outside every day, weather permitting. It gets cold, and every student needs and
deserves a warm coat, hat and gloves. Please plan ahead and check your closets to see what needs you have. Contact me to make arrangements for coats. I will need to know each child's age and size. We keep all requests confidential and discreetly get the coats to you. Please do not
hesitate to either call or email me at 402-895-9602 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Platteview High School

At Platteview High School, we are committed to building a strong foundation that helps every student succeed. Over the past year, our staff and administration worked together to thoughtfully develop and agree upon a set of core values that reflect who we are and what we believe will help every student be successful, not just in high school, but in life: Relationships, Community, Intentional, and Perseverance.

While these are the shared values we have chosen to guide our school community, we also respect and celebrate the fact that each individual and family has their own personal values. Our goal is not to replace those, but to create a common foundation that strengthens and supports every student's growth, belonging, and success at Platteview.

Free! Thats Right Free online tutoring program developed by the Nebraska State Colleges

Good Afternoon,

I’m excited to share an opportunity that can make a real difference for your students. Nebraska SMART, a free online tutoring program developed by the Nebraska State Colleges in partnership with the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE), has now expanded statewide, providing all K–12 students with access to one-on-one academic support at no cost.

Funded through an NDE Innovation Grant, Nebraska SMART connects students with teacher education majors from Chadron, Peru, and Wayne State Colleges who provide individualized help in a secure online environment. In its first year, the program served students in ESUs 1, 4, and 13, as well as NRCSA member schools, and is now open to every Nebraska student.

How Nebraska SMART Works:

  • Parents must register their children for tutoring through the Nebraska SMART website.
  • Once registered, students (or parents) can schedule sessions or connect instantly using our on-demand feature.
  • Tutoring is available in 15-, 30-, 45-, or 60-minute increments; on-demand sessions are available in 10-minute blocks.
  • All sessions take place on Pearl, a secure online tutoring platform that records and manages communication.
  • Tutors are education majors who have been admitted to their programs, completed background checks, and are mentored by College Program Coordinators.

Best regards,

Judi Yorges
Director of Strategic Initiatives and Communications

It Happened in Springfield

On Sunday, November 11, 1984, the American Legion Post #143 hosted its Veterans' Day
program at Platteview High School. During this event, three bronze plaques were dedicated to
honor local servicemen who lost their lives in earlier conflicts. These plaques were prominently
displayed in the school's entryway.

Let’s get ready to be thankful.
Remember, the first Thanksgiving came after a severe drought in 1623. When their crops were dying, Governor Bradford called the Pilgrims to pray—and the very next day, rain came and saved the harvest. The Native Americans, who had shown the Pilgrims how to plant and survive in the new land, joined them as they gathered to give thanks to God for His provision.

It’s a reminder that gratitude and community can carry us through even the toughest times.
