HAPPY THANKSGIVING SPRINGFIELD!!

It’s that magical week when the stores are packed, the shelves of strawberry Jell-O are gone before you even blink, and the holiday hustle makes time fly faster than my mother-in-law’s famous dressing! Mmmm… just thinking about it makes me drool.

This week is all about the traditional feast: turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, and stuffing so good it will knock your socks off and have you asking for seconds (and maybe thirds).

I hope you all have a wonderful week filled with family, laughter, and a little bit of chaos—because isn’t that what makes the holidays so memorable? And remember, it’s all about gratefulness.

Speaking of gratefulness, I had the joy of attending the Annual Parade of Lights! How incredible it was—so big, so bright, so full of cheer. When I first saw the volunteer fire trucks rolling down the street and heard the kids’ excited squeals as lights flashed everywhere, I may have lunged forward with excitement… We are so Greatful to the churches that donated Cookies to the fun.

And speaking of Cookies… you know what’s coming up! Friends of the Library are calling for Christmas cookie donations for the beloved Library Cookie Walk. Time to dust off your favorite recipes and get ready to spread some holiday sweetness.

Until next week… Gobble gobble and Happy Thanksgiving!

Onto what’s going on this week…

Its Still warm enough to plant spring bulbs like tulips and daffodils before the ground freezes.
If you have summer bulbs like dahlias or gladiolus, dig them up and store them in a cool, dry place until spring!

Thanksgiving Schedule
The schedule for the Thanksgiving week will be as follows: Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 24 and 25, school as usual. Wednesday through Friday, Nov. 26-28 school will not be in session. School will resume Monday, December 1st at 9:10 a.m.

Every year the Knights of Columbus at St. Joseph's Church in Springfield very generously donates coats for children who need them. The cold weather is right around the corner, and we do go to recess outside every day, weather permitting. It gets cold, and every student needs and
deserves a warm coat, hat and gloves. Please plan ahead and check your closets to see what needs you have. Contact me to make arrangements for coats. I will need to know each child's age and size. We keep all requests confidential and discreetly get the coats to you. Please do not
hesitate to either call or email me at 402-895-9602 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
PLEASE do not hesitate to request coats

Platteview High School

At Platteview High School, we are committed to building a strong foundation that helps every student succeed. Over the past year, our staff and administration worked together to thoughtfully develop and agree upon a set of core values that reflect who we are and what we believe will help every student be successful, not just in high school, but in life: Relationships, Community, Intentional, and Perseverance.

While these are the shared values we have chosen to guide our school community, we also respect and celebrate the fact that each individual and family has their own personal values. Our goal is not to replace those, but to create a common foundation that strengthens and supports every student's growth, belonging, and success at Platteview.

It's Springfield

This early 1900s photo of Main Street, Springfield, Nebraska, shows a town in transition. The dirt road, horse-drawn buggies alongside early cars, and Edwardian-era clothing place it around 1905–1920. Crowds gather along the street, likely for a community event, while telephone poles hint at emerging modern communication. Close-set storefronts give way to open farmland, capturing a moment of growth, technological change, and small-town life over 100 years ago.Fairgrounds Tree

The first Thanksgiving in 1621 lasted three full days and was primarily a harvest celebration, not a formal holiday.

It was a simple meal, yet shared with deep gratitude. A story not just of eating, but of survival, generosity, and community—the very heart of a tradition that continues to inspire thankfulness today.

The first Thanksgiving didn't become an official national holiday until 1863, when Abraham Lincoln proclaimed it during the Civil War to help bring the nation together.
