Happy New Year’s Eve — Good Bye 2025 Greetings to 2026!

As we close the door on 2025 and step into a brand-new year, this is our moment to pause, reset, and look forward. A new year isn’t about perfection — it’s about intention, connection, and steady progress.

Driver Ed classes are starting soon (details below). Winter roads remind us to slow down, check tire pressure, keep an emergency kit handy, and drive with care.

Stay warm and save energy by sealing drafts and keeping your thermostat near 68°. Simple habits now can make the colder months more comfortable.

Fresh year, fresh review — a great time to revisit insurance coverage, make updates, and explore smart ways to save going into 2026.

Grades will be finalized on Monday, December 22 and report cards will be in the mail by January 5th. Access to grades start on Tuesday, December 23 through PowerSchool.

School resumes at 8:10am on Tuesday, January 6th.

It's Springfield History

The Story of Everett Swain and the Birth of Springfield

Everett Swain was a young boy living with his family near Sarpy Center when Captain J.D. Spearman learned that the Missouri Pacific Railroad planned to extend west and south of their
town. Spearman encouraged the residents of Sarpy Center to explore potential new sites closer to the upcoming railroad.
In Mr. Swain's account of Springfield's origins, he describes how an army worm infestation had nearly devastated the vegetation around Sarpy Center. When the townspeople ventured out to
find a new location near the railroad, they were captivated by the lush fields with wild flowers surrounding a creek with bubbling springs and a pond.
Swain's father played a vital role in relocating the homes from Sarpy Center, including their own, but the family chose to stay in a farm home near Sarpy Center for the winter. Once they settled in
Springfield, Swain recalled how he and his brother would gather bottles, clean them up, and trade them for candy at Drs. Anglin and Wallner’s store in the Perkins building. He also remembered the installation of telephone lines throughout the town. His recollections were not only reminiscences of a past time but gave an account of developments in those years.
