Hey Springfield! Have you received your official mail-in ballot for the Special Election on February 10, 2026, it includes an important question for Sarpy District 046 — Springfield Platteview Community Schools (SPCS).
Ballots were mailed to all registered voters in the district, and they must be returned by February 10, 2026.
What You’re Voting On
Shall Sarpy District 046 (Springfield Platteview Community Schools) in the State of Nebraska issue its bonds in a total principal amount not to exceed $79,900,000 for these purposes:
Here’s how the funds would be used:
1) Safety & Security Improvements
- Construct a secure indoor corridor connecting Platteview Central (PC) and Platteview High School (PHS) so students can move safely inside between buildings.
- Install secure entrances and upgraded security systems to better control visitors and keep students safe.
2) Expanded Student Programs
- Add classroom space for current and future students.
- Expand and upgrade Career & Technical Education (CTE) spaces to support real-world learning and workforce pathways.
3) Building Improvements
- Replace or upgrade critical infrastructure such as roofs, HVAC systems, and building systems to maintain safe, functional learning spaces.
- Improve long-term maintenance and extend the life of existing facilities.
4) Planning for Future Growth
- Build a new Springfield Platteview Elementary School near the Oak Leaf development to handle increasing enrollment and prevent overcrowding.
- Support responsible, sustainable facilities for future students.
What It Means for Taxes
Importantly, the district anticipates this bond will NOT raise your tax levy rate — planned as a 0% tax levy rate increase.
This means the district expects to fund these projects responsibly without increasing the overall tax rate homeowners pay.
How to Vote
Your official ballot should arrive in your mailbox.
Complete the ballot and return it by February 10, 2026.
You don’t need to request it — ballots are sent to all registered voters in the district.
If you haven’t received your ballot or need help tracking it, check your voter registration status with Sarpy County Election officials or contact the school district for assistance.

The Platteview Booster Club is gearing up for our Bowling Fundraiser on Friday, February 7th, and we need your help to make it a great success!
We are currently collecting donations for our raffle and silent auction, and your support can make a huge impact. Whether it’s team-branded items, gear, gift baskets, gift cards, or creative experience-based donations, every contribution helps us create an exciting event that draws strong community participation.
Most importantly, the funds raised go right back into supporting your programs—enhancing opportunities for our student-athletes and activity groups.

Springfield High School Newspaper
In October 1938, the senior class at Springfield High School launched the first issue of the
Echoes school newspaper. Students voted to name the newspaper “Echoes,” which was
published monthly.
The content covered a variety of topics, including:
High school and grade school events
Highlights of students
Faculty news
Editorials and opinions
Artwork, jokes, and poems
Sports updates
Local news and alumni information
Community calendar of events
The first student newspaper staff aimed to produce a publication of outstanding quality. Echoes
were distributed to every family associated with both the high school and grade school, while
community members could purchase subscriptions. Subscriptions were even mailed to locations
as distant as California and Oklahoma. At the end of the school year, senior students provided
training to junior students in publishing the Echoes school newspaper.

Education in Springfield has deep roots. The town’s first public school was built in the 1880s, a brick building that eventually expanded to a full 12-grade accredited school.
In 1958, thirteen rural districts came together to form Springfield Platteview Community Schools (District 046), creating the foundation of the district we know today.
Key milestones followed:
- Platteview Junior/Senior High School opened in 1960
- Springfield Elementary opened in 1964
- Westmont Elementary followed in 1978
- Platteview Central Junior High opened in 1980
- La Platte Elementary, built in 1955, later closed in 2000
Today, Springfield Platteview continues to serve generations of families with strong community ties, growing facilities, and a commitment to education that spans well over a century.
