Surf Into Springfield this weekend for Springfield Days 2008! The fun begins Friday with 82 vendors at the Bugeater Flea Market, the incredible Springfield Idol contest, the “State” Championship BBQ contest and a fabulous Fireworks Show. Saturday is filled with a variety of activities for the whole family. Begin your morning at the Pancake Feed, end your evening at the Street Dance and be sure to fill your whole day with all the activities in between. Invite your family and friends to ride the waves into the Springfield!!!

Springfield has a new updated website. Effective June 1st the Springfield community website launched its new format. The new look is amazing. Springfield State Bank president, Michael Hansen is retiring. A reception will be held at the Springfield State Bank, 600 Main Street, in honor of Mike’s service to the bank and the community from 2pm – 4pm on Thursday, June 5th. Everyone is invited.
Girl Scouts Now Forming Troops for 2008-2009 School Year
Girl Scout troops are now forming troops in Springfield for the 2008-09 school year and are looking for adults interested in working together to lead a troop in the following levels of Girl Scouts.
Daisy Girl Scouts – Kindergarten
Brownie Girl Scouts – Grades 1 – 3
Junior Girl Scouts – Grades 4 – 6
Cadette Girl Scouts – Grades 7 – 9
Senior Girl Scouts – Grades 9 - 12
Now is a great time to organize a troop for the next school year. Every troop is different. Some meet once a week while others meet every other week or even once a month. Some meet for one hour while others meet for two hours. It is all up to the leaders and parents who devote their time in choosing the whens, wheres and whats of the Girl Scout troop.
Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska provides two free trainings required
for all leaders and co-leaders. Getting Started: Building Stronger
Girls introduces you to Girl Scouts and our council’s policies and
procedures. Beginnings is a class for that specific level that you
will be leading. Both classes can be taken in one of three ways: at a
class at the council office (2121 S. 44 Street, Omaha, NE 68105),
online utilizing Microsoft PowerPoint and Blackboard or as a home study
(like a take-home test). Girl Scouts will provide a volunteer guide
and one Safety-Wise per troop. Each leader and co-leader will want to
purchase a level handbook and insignia books (or use their daughter’s
books) for training and planning purposes.

Springfield SSAP U-12 Boys Soccer team took first place in the league
ending tournament. The Lions out dueled the Papillion Destroyers for
the title with a 3 to 1 score at Papillion. It was an action packed
game that ended with a well deserved trophy for everyone! It was a
great season and a hard working team.
