SPRINGFIELD HISTORICAL TIDBIT:
In 1887 [the Ringling Brothers Circus] came back with a one-ring circus
and pitched their tent on the bottoms west of town, and put on a
performance afternoon and evening to a tent packed to capacity. They
also had a small line of animals –elephants, lions, monkeys, etc.
