The game begins at 6:30pm in UNL’s Memorial Stadium.
Springfield to Host Tournament
Springfield American Legion Post 143 will host the 2009 American Legion Area B-2 Seniors tournament at Buffalo Park in Springfield. Play will begin on Wednesday July 22 and continue each day/night until a champion is determined. Teams are comprised of boys born on or after January 1,1991.
Teams participating in this senior tournament are Ashland, Bennet, Gretna, Amigos aka Warrior Baseball(Lincoln Lutheran), Nehawka, Plattsmouth, Pleasant Dale, Waverly and the host, Springfield. Springfield’s opening game will be 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday. The games will continue through the championship game scheduled for 5:30 P.M. on the following Tuesday. The champions will advance to the state tournament in Wayne, NE.

Sarpy County Fair News
The Sarpy County Fair begins next week! It’s time for the rodeo, 4-H shows, tractor pulls, carnival rides and more. Get your Fair entries ready! Come to Springfield to experience a bit of the country life! (Yahoo, I get cotton candy!) The Fair will be held July 29 – August 2, 2009, with the parade scheduled for Saturday, August 1st. First Annual Veterans Memorial Golf Tournament

The first annual Veterans Memorial Golf Tournament will take place July 24th and you are invited!
Bring your own foursome, or partner up with fellow golfers at the course. Either way you are sure to have a great afternoon while you raise money for the Veterans Memorial planned for the campus of the Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home in Bellevue.
The Veterans Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at Willow Lakes Golf Course, 12301 S 25th St., about a mile south of Highway 370 in Bellevue. Check-in begins at 11:30 am with a shot gun start at 1 pm. An Awards Dinner will follow at 6:30 pm at the American Legion Post 331, 4830 S 21st Street, in South Omaha.
Registration is $75 per golfer or $300 for a foursome. Registration includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, the chance to win great prizes and an invitation to the Awards Dinner.
Holes can be sponsored for $50 each. Sponsors are also invited to donate merchandise as flag prizes.

The Old Avoca (Nebraska) Schoolhouse will be hosting a Twin Fiddling Workshop on Saturday, August 1, for fiddlers (or violinists or violists) who want to learn to play nicely together with their fellow-fiddlers (or violinists or violists). Fiddlers (or violinists or violists) of any age and experience level are encouraged to enroll. Championship fiddler and fiddle book author, Deborah Greenblatt will share some tunes, hints about arranging for two fiddles, playing back-up, etc. The Workshop takes place on Saturday, August 1, 1 PM - 3 PM, in the Old Avoca Schoolhouse, in Avoca, Nebraska.
