RED RIBBON RALLY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Volunteers are needed to assist with Red Ribbon Drug Prevention walk and Rally to be held on Sunday, September 27.  It will be held at Elmwood Park and is quite an event.  A lot of schools in the Douglas and Sarpy county area are represented.  Judges are needed to judge the walk with the different drug themes, etc. The walk starts at 1 PM and will not take very long, so not a long event to commit time to. Please help us support the community and the needs of our children.   To volunteer or for more information call 681-0929.
The judges will want to report on site by 12:30, as the walk begins at 1 p.m., and the ending portion of the walk is the competition.  The Judges will judge on a scale of 1-10 the spirit, originality, and drug free message of the group.  This year's theme is Drug Free: We've Got the Power.  So, the judges are responsible for awarding the spirit awards based on their scores.

The Sarpy County Sheriff Dept finished up activity for the” You Drink & Drive, you Lose” campaign sponsored and funded by the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety.  This grant provided extra officers during peak hours and for the Labor Day weekend. Here are the results from August 21 thru Sept 7:

EXPANDED ACTIVITIES OFFERED AT LOCAL PUMPKIN PATCH

Bloom Where You’re Planted Farm Announces New Attractions for Fifth Season
Guests attending the fifth-annual Pumpkin Festival at Bloom Where You’re Planted Farm, rural Avoca, NE, will be treated to some new attractions this season.  The pumpkin patch and agri-entertainment venue has been expanded for 2009 to include hay rides and the newly renovated Schoolhouse Café.
“For many people, when they think of the ultimate pumpkin patch experience they envision a hay ride out to the pumpkin field.  We are very excited to finally be able to offer this experience to our customers,” say farm owners Terry and Teresa Lorensen.
A certified concession kitchen has been added to the 1890’s one-room schoolhouse which the Lorensens moved to the farm and restored last year.  Guests can order from the lunch menu which includes hot sandwiches and homemade pie, and then enjoy their meal at tables in the authentically restored classroom.
“This is a one-of-a-kind dining experience.  While we’ve been serving lunch for the past three seasons, having a certified kitchen and a building dedicated to the Café will allow us to better serve our customers, will make work easier for our employees, and should offer us new opportunities to produce our own baked goods and food mixes in the future,” Teresa Lorensen said.
Bloom Where You’re Planted Farm’s Pumpkin Festival runs every Friday through Sunday from September 19th to November 1st.  Hours are 1:00-6:00 p.m. Fridays and 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.  The farm is open at other times by appointment for field trips and parties.  The $4.00 admission charge includes access to all the attractions on the farm, including the opportunity for every visitor to take a hay ride.
For a complete schedule of events, which include special days such as Military Family Weekend, Doggy Day to benefit the Capital Humane Society, and Ag Day with the Conestoga High School FFA, visit the farm’s website, www.BloomPumpkinPatch.com

For more information about Bloom Where You‘re Planted Farm, visit their website, www.BloomPumpkinPatch.com, or call 402-267-4104.  The farm is located at 911 - 108th St., rural Avoca, NE;  27 miles east of Lincoln or 30 miles south of Omaha.  Take US Hwy. 34 to 108th Street, then travel ½ mile north.

Music Fills the Air at the Old School House in Avoca, NE

A Sightreading Workshop is scheduled for Saturday, October 3, 2009, from 1 PM - 3 PM in the Old Avoca Schoolhouse, in picturesque Avoca, Nebraska.  This will be a wonderful opportunity to play with other music students, and sightread music that you've never seen before, and don't have to ever see again.  During the workshop, musicians will be discussing how to negotiate new compositions with minimum stress, and maximum music.  The beauty of this workshop is that all you have to do is show up.  There is no preparation necessary, although pre-registration is required, and there is a $20.00 fee.  For more information, call 402-275-3221, or e-mail This email address is being protected from spambots. Greenblatt & Seay proudly announce the THIRTEENTH ANNUAL SCHOOLHOUSE FIDDLING BEE.
This historical, hysterical event will take place on Sunday, October 11, at 2:30 PM, in the auditorium of the Old Avoca, Nebraska Schoolhouse.  In the Open Division, fiddlers will play a hoedown, a waltz, and a tune of choice.  There will also be other divisions of competition available for the adventurous fiddlers, including a Singing Fiddler's Contest, a Twin Fiddler's Contest, a Fee-Fi-Faux Fiddler's Contest (fiddle tunes played on any instrument other than a fiddle), and a Hocus-Pocus Contest (cross-tuning, sound effects, dancing, etc.), which will give fiddlers an opportunity to play tunes that are usually not allowed in any other contest.  The prizes for the winners in the Open Division are $100 for 1st place, $50 for 2nd place, and $25 for 3rd place.  Prizes will also be awarded for 1st place in the other contests. Registration for contestants starts at 1:30 PM the day of the FIDDLING BEE.
Admission is $5.00 for adults and $1.00 for children.  Fiddlers and their back-ups are admitted for free.  For more information, call 402-275-3221, log on to www.greenblattandseay.com  or
