SPRINGFIELD ARTWORKS

glenn_margie1

Glenn and Margie Trembley of Springfield ArtWorks have volunteered to man the Nebraska State Tourism booth at the state fair in Grand Island on Sept 4th. Any tourism related industries or organizations in Springfield are welcome to drop off brochures at the gallery during regular hours. Trembleys will be promoting all tourism in the Springfield area at the state fair.

The state tourism conference will be held in Lincoln from October 12-14. Trembley said, "Last year’s event was very beneficial for me.  I hope other organizations from Springfield can attend this event since it is held so close to home."  The principal speakers at these events are national speakers who really know the tourism market.  Attending these events really gets the word out about our great community, Trembley said. There are scholarships available to attend the conference.  Deadline for applying is Sept 13.  Please contact Dean at 402-376-2969 or This email address is being protected from spambots. Stop by Springfield ArtWorks for your copy of Nebraskaland Magazine and the free Country Register, packed full of places to go in the area.

Auditions for Fall Farce at the Lofte

The Lofte Community Theatre will be holding auditions for its fall comedy, “Unnecessary Farce,” on Monday, September 6 and Tuesday, September 7 at 7pm.  No advance preparation is necessary.  Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.

Written by Paul Slade Smith, “Unnecessary Farce” is a fast-paced, high energy comedy.  An embezzling mayor is trying to schedule a rendezvous with his beautiful assistant.  Throw in a couple of undercover cops, a hit man and various other over-the-top characters and you have the recipe for fun.

Artistic Director Kevin Colbert is looking for four men and three women of various ages.  Performance dates are Oct 15-17, 22-24, 28-31.  Questions about the audition or the production itself may be directed to Kevin Colbert at This email address is being protected from spambots. FIDDLING BEE

Greenblatt & Seay proudly announce the FOURTEENTH ANNUAL SCHOOLHOUSE FIDDLING BEE.  This historical, hysterical event will take place on Sunday, October 10, at 2:30 PM, in the auditorium of the Old Avoca, Nebraska Schoolhouse.  In the Open Division, fiddlers will play a hoedown, a waltz, and a tune of choice.  There will also be other divisions of competition available for the adventurous fiddlers, including a Singing Fiddler's Contest, a Twin Fiddler's Contest, a Fee-Fi-Faux Fiddler's Contest (fiddle tunes played on any instrument other than a fiddle), and a Hocus-Pocus Contest (cross-tuning, sound effects, dancing, etc.), which will give fiddlers an opportunity to play tunes that are usually not allowed in any other contest.  The prizes for the winners in the Open Division are $100 for 1st place, $50 for 2nd place, and $25 for 3rd place.  Prizes will also be awarded for 1st place in the other contests. Registration for contestants starts at 1:30 PM the day of the FIDDLING BEE.  Admission is $5.00 for adults and $1.00 for children.  Fiddlers and their back-ups are admitted for free.  For more information, call 402-275-3221, log on to www.greenblattandseay.com, or e-mailThis email address is being protected from spambots.
