Youth Group Mission Trip – Here we go!!
Twenty members of the Springfield UMC youth group and adults are heading out for our mission trip July 9 -16th to Lame Deer, Montana. We wanted to take this opportunity to say Thank You to the entire community, for the love and support. There is no way this would be possible without your help. Thank you for giving us the ability to go out and spread the “Good News” to the world. We could use your prayers for life changing God moments and safe travels. Please pray for us!

Nebraska’s Historic Forts Featured
In Talk at Springfield Memorial Library
Author Comes to Sarpy County for Presentation, Book Signing
They once hosted presidents, foreign dignitaries and some of the most famous names of the Old West. They saw the advent of transportation from the wagon to the rail to the space shuttle. And day to day, they meant protection and supplies to the travelers, settlers, workers and soldiers of the region.
Omaha author Jeff Barnes introduces “The Forts of Nebraska” to patrons of the Springfield Memorial Library on Thursday, July 21, at 7 p.m. The program is a presentation of the Nebraska Humanities Council.
The 45-minute library talk covers 12 of the state’s military posts, covering more than 200 years of Nebraska history. “The Nebraska forts rank among the most important in the history of the Great Plains, at least one of them among the most important in American history,” said Barnes. His PowerPoint presentation includes a brief history of the posts, seldom heard tales, and many rarely seen historic images and maps.
Barnes is the author of “Forts of the Northern Plains: Guide to Historic Military Posts of the Plains Indian Wars,” available for purchase and signing after the talk. Curiosity for what happened to the forts – and how travelers can visit them today – led Barnes to drive more than 13,000 miles in writing.
