SENATOR PANKONIN ANNOUNCES RESIGNATION FROM LEGISLATURE

State Senator Dave Pankonin of Louisville, Nebraska announced today that he will resign from his District 2 seat in the Nebraska Legislature effective October 7, 2011. Pankonin was first elected to the legislature in 2006 and was re-elected in 2010.

“It is with sincere regret that I announce my resignation from the Nebraska Legislature,” Pankonin wrote in a letter to his legislative colleagues. “It has been an honor and privilege to represent the citizens of District 2. However, in the spring of last year my responsibilities for our family businesses changed. After much careful consideration I have concluded that my new obligations mean I can no longer devote the time that is required to continue in office and represent my constituents effectively.”

Pankonin cited his ongoing involvement with his family’s agricultural equipment dealership and his added responsibilities with Home State Bank in Louisville, due to the sudden death of the bank’s president last year. Pankonin’s family has been associated with Home State Bank since it was founded in 1915.

“The people in District 2 are great people, and they need and deserve a state senator who is able to give them the best representation possible,” Pankonin said. “I’ve done that the past five years, but I see new challenges on the horizon with my family’s business interests that are going to take too much time away from my role as a state senator. It wouldn’t be fair to my constituents to continue in the office without being able to put in the necessary time and effort to serve them well. My friends and colleagues know when I take on a job in public service, I do it to the best of my ability. In the future, I wouldn’t be able to give them my very best, and District 2 deserves a senator who will work hard to represent their interests in the Nebraska Unicameral,” Pankonin said Wednesday.

“My five years as a state senator have been the highlight of my 19 years of elected public service. I have especially enjoyed the friendships with my colleagues and the opportunity to contribute to an institution that I will always respect and treasure. I want to thank everyone for their understanding of my situation and the difficult decision I must make. My wife Lori and I want to especially thank the citizens of District 2 who placed their faith and trust in me to serve them in the legislature. That honor will never be forgotten,” Pankonin said.

Pankonin served as a member of the Health and Human Services Committee; the Banking, Commerce and Insurance Committee; the Revenue Committee and was chairman of the Nebraska Retirement Systems Committee from 2009-2010.

Combine the warmth and charm of "On Golden Pond" with the plot twists of "Deathtrap."  Cliffhanger is an old-fashioned thriller with a little bit of heartbreak and hearty laughs.
This comedy/thriller, written by James Yaffe is the story of Henry Lowenthal (Bob Pinkerton of Weeping Water) who is looking forward to being appointed to an endowed chair position at his small college so that he and his wife can enjoy their golden years with honor.  However, their plans are given a jolt when a ruthlessly ambitious woman informs Henry that she is not recommending him for the chair position.
Directed by Kevin Colbert, the cast also includes Cheryl Grimshaw and Melinda Mead of Plattsmouth, Joshua P. Smith of La Vista and Benjimam Pettiford of Lincoln.
Murder!  Mayhem!  Blackmail!  Find these things and more at the Lofte Community Theatre September 3, 4, 9-11, and 15-18.  Tickets are $17.  Please contact the Loftebox office at (402) 234-2553 or purchase online at www.Lofte.com
