CONGRATULATIONS

Colleen Anderson was selected to represent Platteview High School High School at the 2012 Nebraska Leadership Seminar at Doane College June 14 – 17, 2012. Colleen will be a junior and participates in numerous community and school activities.

“Nearly 150 students from across Nebraska attended the 2012 Nebraska Leadership Seminar,” said Dylan Schenk, Corporate Board President of NLS. “Each of these students have been given the tools to become the leader their community needs – a leader who is inspiring, challenges the norm, and empowers others to discover their strengths.”

Nebraska Leadership Seminar, Inc., (NLS) is a statewide leadership organization that teaches students to lead with their strengths through the nonprofit’s relationship with the Gallup Organization. Each summer, the organization hosts a four-day seminar for high school sophomores from around the state to challenge, empower and inspire them to become the leaders Nebraska needs. Since its founding in 1978, more than 6,000 students from 300 school districts have successfully completed the seminar.

If you’re interested in sponsoring a student from your community to attend NLS in 2013, please visit nebraskaleadership.org.

First United Methodist Youth Group Leaves for Mission Trip

Members of the first United Methodist Church Youth Group will be leaving for this year’s Youth Mission Trip at 7:00am Saturday July 7th. They are heading up to Cass Lake, MN for a week of service.

Youth Group Director, Ron Smith is asking for the Springfield community’s support.

From Ron:

I would like to ask you all for the gift of prayer this week.

Please pray for safe travel for all of us on our way there and back.

Please pray for strength to love each other and the people we encounter this week. Openly share the love of Christ as the Spirit leads.

Please pray for the community of the Leach Lake Reservation we are serving this week as well as our own community we are coming back to.

Please pray for the strength to continue to love and serve God and others with all our heart, soul, mind and strength.

There is no way a simple thank you would ever be sufficient for all the church and community has done for us. Thank You for sending us!!

Here is a list of those attending our Mission Trip this year.

I would appreciate it if you would take the time to pray for each person individually -- that each person will be able to more fully understand God’s purpose and plan for their life.

Children's Theater Event At Lofte A Success

The Missoula Children's Theater residency at the Lofte Community Theatre last week was a resounding success.  In all, 110 children auditioned for the play.  This is a new record for area children wanting to take part in the week-long theater event.  After auditions, 58 children were cast to present the classic tale, "Hansel & Gretel."

Starring in the title roles were Dawson Hogue of Murray (playing Hansel) and Madeline Schmit of Lincoln (playing Gretel).  The Wildwood Witch was played by Carson Santee of Plattsmouth.  Other children participating in the play are listed below by their town of residence.

The Lofte thanks Home State Bank and Plattsmouth State Bank for their continued sponsorship of this marvelous event.  Missoula Children's Theater is a non-profit organization based out of Missoula, Montana which works to help the development of life skills for children through the participation of the performing arts.
